Ive played both - I now own a UV; that says it all I suppose. The wilkinson trem is what put me off; there very good - but not up to the whammy bar abuse I give my guitars.

They are a lot cheaper 2, so that would be a strong point to. I'm getting G.A.S. ....

When the Petrucci 7 came out, my shop ordered one for a customer and I ordered one for me in silver. That was some time ago...I've bought Ibanez's since then and hardly use the silver 7.

It was actually a replacement, and this will show my wierdness, or downright childlike attitude for guitars. I bought a sparkle silver one, and decided to sell it or trade it because the neck just wasn't comfy to me. After dropping it, I waited about 2 months, and felt I wanted it back, so I ordered another one...lol My reasoning? It was uncomfortable, but it sounded cool. So I got one with the piezo and everything. Though I left out the inlays...just dots. Now, it sits in its case...lol

It's like a kid who doesn't want the toy until someone else has it...

Either guitar is great. Though the Ibanez takes whammy abuse much better. For me personally, I am not the biggest fan of the body shape of the Petrucci either. After playing RG's from 8th grade on, the Uni/Jem shape is just far more comfortable to me.

You get the piezo option with the petrucci, but dont get the trem which has a greater and range, and far more stability. The locking nut gives a little added brightness that the seven string needs I think. Having said that youll probably like the feel of the neck of the petrucci better, if not the shape. The neck joints are similar in design though the dimensions are quite different, and with the petrucci dont you get the carousel truss rod? Any plusses or minuses to using this system guys? Als the petrucci has bolt on pickups which may or may not be good for tone but with the universe you have an extras single coil and a five way switch for more overall tonal options. I would personally rather have a petrucci with an edge trem and added single coil but we cant always get what we want

Why not consider some other options like the RG1527, the 2077XL or the ESP/LTD Stephen Carpenter models?

I had a UV777BK for about um, a year and a half or so before I got my EB/MM JP7.

I no longer own the UV777BK. It was a nice guitar but honestly paled in comparison as far as playability, quality and fit and finish.

After I recieved the EB/MM I never played the UV again so as a result I sold it about 6 months ago to a friend.

Given the choice for me personally, the sound I like, the tone I like and the way I like a guitar to play, I'd buy the EB/MM again in a heartbeat.

As a side note, I found the pickups in the UV777BK to be stale and lifeless. I gutted it right after I got it and put in a Tone Zone 7 and PAF7; huge improvement. The EB/MM still has the stock pickups, I've decided I like them and have kept them.

If you are a whammy-bar king (I am not, I'd have gotten it w/out if it were an option) you may want a double locker I guess. I don't have any tuning problems even if I use the bar, but I don't use it often. As a result it's certainly nice to have easy string changes.

I really like having the piezo as well, it's probably the best sound piezo I've heard yet in a solid body. It sounds infinitely better than the LR Bagg's setup in my PRS Archtop.

The UV777BK is a fine guitar, just for me it didn't feel like the quality or caliber of instrument I prefer so I got rid of it. I'd never get rid of the EB.

But that's me and my tastes, your mileage may vary.
