identification

Hello all,

New to the JEM world, but loving every second of it!

Can anybody help me identify this JEM555wh:

S05050389

I've attached a pic of the trem that's on it, but I'm not sure which one it is either.

Thanks,

Re: identification

Identify it how? You've already correctly identified it as a 555wh. It was made in Korea in 2005, if that's what you're after.

Not sure about the trem, but it's clearly an aftermarket addition. I'm 99% sure an '05 555 would have an Edge 3, and the size of the route would seem to back that up. Most likely, someone decided to keep the Edge 3 (weird decision) and stuck an old (really old) TRS or something on it instead.

Edit: Correction, looks like it may have originally been an EdgePro II, though everything else still applies.

Re: identification

Those are not Dimarzio pickups. I'd be more inclined to think it's a fake somebody stuck a real TRS2 in to look more authentic. More pics needed.

Re: identification

I bet it's a Chibanez. Look at the Lionsclaw.

Re: identification

Ha, those are good points. I was thrown off by the Ibanez trem, even though I myself knew that it couldn't be stock! Also, that didn't sound like one of the typical Chibanez serial numbers, but yeah, that makes a lot more sense now that I think about it.

Re: identification

Oh no

What other pics can I post to help identify if it's a fake?

Re: identification

Back of the body often contains good giveaways, maybe headstock front and back.

Re: identification

Take a bunch of pics of the whole guitar, and throw them up on photobucket or something. Take pics of everything, and not all extreme closeups.

Re: identification

Is it this one at Chris' Guitars?

If so, it is a China-knockoff that someone put a 350 neck on, and TRS in.

Re: identification

Apparently I need 20 or more posts to link to images. I've got them on photobucket, is there a way to put a link on here?

Can't you just post the link to the photobucket url? I thought the post limit was only attaching files to your post.

Re: identification

'Fraid so. The smaller cavity cover on the back is a dead giveaway and is typical of Chinese copies, the monkey grip is way, way too big, the pickguard is shaped weird... You got a nice case out of the deal though.
