identifying year of Edge?
I'm wondering if there is anyway to identify what year an edge or edge lo-pro is from? Is there even anything to distinguise reissues from origionals? thanks

Re: identifying year of Edge?
I don't think there would be a way, since the trems are not stamped with a serial number that I know of. I could be mistaken though... Rich might be able to have a better answer.

Re: identifying year of Edge?
When did Ibanez stop putting the palmguard (or whatever it is) on the JEMs? I always thought that it added a unique look to those old 777s...

Re: identifying year of Edge?
there are a few details that can't detect the exact incept date but pretty much the period, early '86/'87, the '90s and so on.
for example, the first Edges in '86/'87 had a different spring block, it was thinner but wider and taller, it was called S or HS. see pic:
it also had the arm insert with a longer threat, vs the '90s Edge where the threat was cut shorter:
early Edge arm insert:
(yeah, it's a Lo-Pro but no matter)
'90 Edge arm insert
also, the early Edge had no Stud-Locks. hope that helps

Re: identifying year of Edge?
Some good info, what I want to find out is if, some bridges i have my eye on, are reissues from the late ninties or later or if there are from the early 90s. I'm restoring the bridge on a jem so im looking for a 90' one.

i think the only "reissue" of the Edge has been made for the RG 20th. other than that, an Edge is just an Edge. the only detail i'd be aware of is the taller spring block from early '86/'87, which would stick out of the trem cavity.

Re: identifying year of Edge?
another couple of details that just came to mind: the early Edges were molded smoother, the saddles edges were rounder, smoother. since around mid '90s they were molded squarer and tighter. also, early Edges didn't have the Fine Tuners lock plastic rings.

base plate
and spring plate.
So what exactly is the difference between the baseplate and spring plate over the older and earlier models?

Re: identifying year of Edge?
I'm not sure of the exact difference but I don't think it will be a difference that would affect its performance/originality in a 90's Jem anymore than not using every original screw that was supplied.
