Jem 20th pups direction (pink green) or (Green Pink)
Was just looking at the ibanez website and realised that on different pics the colors of the pups are in different positions.
Does it come randomly, and does it matter which way they are turned ?
Sorry if this has already been disscussed, but i want to know ?

I doubt its "random" but rather what color combo they think is best matched up with the color/pattern of each particular swirl. (I'm calling it a swirl for lack of a better term
)) There would be no difference in tone as they are all the same neck/mid/bridge position Trans-Jem pups regardless of the color

Shouldn't flipping it make it sound different?

How the hell did they swirl on the inside of the guitar. Not ever seeing it close up in person, is the swirl on the outside or inside of the guitar ??

It's on the inside through the body. They do it when molding the acrylic

Generally, no. It did back when they made pickups that looked like the typical Gibson humbucker; one straight slug pole bobbin and one screw pole bobbin, because the two coils often had slightly unequal wraps. These days almost all guitar pickups (ther are of course a few exceptions) are wound by machine with equal wraps on each bobbin, so the orientation doesn't change the sound. I never noticed this before on the 20th though, nice catch

Green-pink-green-pink-green. Just as it is on a GMC and any other (if any) two color pickup Jem. Never the same color twice! That's the rule of the 80's.

Re: Jem 20th pups direction (pink green) or (Green Pink)
Seeing as I wont be getting a jem 20th anytime soon, I just ordered in 2 evolution pups from
www.universaljems.com
in a pink green zebra color scheme to go on my Rg550 DY... Can't wait.
Brian, the guy at universaljems asked me which combination I wanted cause he reckons it does make a difference ? He also said that dimarzio would want to know which side I want which color when he orders them.
Also apparently I was able to choose between chrome or black pole peices. I went with black.
Excitedly awaiting. Should take a while though !!!

Doesnt flipping the 'buckers causes it to
coil tap
in a different 'bucker position? like middle pup +
neck pup
(closer to the middle pickup) becomes middle pup + neck pup (closer to the neck)

Just to make another point the image on
www.vai.com
is also pink on outside and green on the inside. instead of zebra style.
someone should do a poll on what they recieved when they purchased their Jem 20th ????

not if you ground the other coil... one of my favourite sounds is the two outer most coils run in parallel
... well spotted IbFreak!

It was a mistake. They put them in the NAMM guitar [Steve's] backwards. Notice in the 3rd picture they flipped them to how they should be. Production guitars are all the same, there is no difference.

Re: Jem 20th pups direction (pink green) or (Green Pink)
flipping them does make a difference in sound if they are of Dual Resonance design, Evos are DR by DiMarzio's account, not sure about Breeds (prob. too) and no word yet on the exact design of the new Pups. But my guess is yes; the FAQ at DiMArzio doesn't mention their latest pups:
Quote:
Most humbuckers are symmetrical and their sound does not change at all when installed backwards, but some have a slightly different sound if you install them in the opposite direction from normal. (..)Those models include the Air Norton™, Air Zone™, Evolution® neck, bridge and 7-string, FRED®, Humbucker from Hell™, DLX Plus™ neck and bridge models, Virtual P-90™, Blaze™ neck and bridge models and
Tone Zone
7™.
The Steve’s Special™, the Bluesbucker® and the MegaDrive™ have distinctly different sounds if you turn them around, and there is no ‘right’ installation direction.
http://www.jemsite.com/forums/showth...dual+resonance
as for looks I think most of us had already agreed they should've gone yellow-green-pink-green-yellow or any similar 3color combo. Non-matching selectors&knobs don't make any sense to me either...
Perhaps the tone is yellow to remind you that it operates the LEDs as well?
