JEM 555, bastard child or happy mistress?

On a weak moment, I purchased a used JEM 555 BK, probably and early mid-90s model (by the way, where can I go to get a production date using the serial #?). I paid $600 (Guitar Center tag wanted $850) . Its in very good condition, setup was done by Guitar Center.

Now, I know JEM purists routinely flame the 555, because 1) it is not a true JEM, 2) it is made in Korea, 3) the tremelo is lo tres, and 4) the vine design only goes up to the 12th fret.

Now, EXCLUDING these issues, none of which matter to me, let me know why this is not a great buy for $600. What is a better guitar for $600?

Thanks, Dwight

Ok, I know you dont like the JEM 555, but please tell me what you think is wrong with the JEM 555 (not including the four issues I originally posted)?

Also, please tell me where I can get two mint rg550's for $600? I will buy one right away (are you selling?).

They arent BAD guitars, but have you ever tried a REAL Jem?? There is simply no comparision as far as playability.

Yes I´ve tried two 7vwh´s, one 777 vsk, EVO, Flo and the double neck guitar Steve used to play Glorious live, and the difference is not as enourmous as most of you use to blame.

Again, for posters who flame the JEM 555, state what is bad about the JEM 555 (other than what I have originally posted)? I am beginning to think that many JEM owners just like to flame the JEM 555 for no good reason.

I have tried a REAL Jem, its great, but I dont have $2,100 to spend on it.

Also, look at all the people who have favorably reviewed the JEM 555, they seem to like it:

Like I said - it's not a bad guitar. I've played my g-friends plenty. But (IMHO) - they dont campare to a real Jem in the play-ability dept. I won't flame the 555 because...Um...did I say....it's not a BAD guitar

Its a nice ECONOMY guitar for those who cannot afford...eh hem....a REAL Jem!

Actually - I do quite dislike the 1/2 vine...but hey....I'm a Jemster
