Jem 555 for a beginner - Good beginner's guitar?

In about 20 mins here im going to purchase a jem555, im just wondering if its ok for a jem lover to learn guitar on without having to spend big bucks then upgrading to a big boy jem when i get better? *anyone know, this guitar will be about $750 less than a jem7d with hard case and everything, is that a good deal? *Im just starting out im not getting into anything complicated where the tremolo or wood would hold me back, thanks for your time and care!

I'd say go for a Japanese RG instead of the Jem555. Maybe an RG570?

Go for a japanese Ibanez. Not a Korean one. The quality "as a whole" is much better. Even if your just starting out, you won't progress much if you don't like the guitar your playing.

Please understand that the Jem555 vs RG thing has been a flogged horse here on Jemsite. But I believe the majority of us would recommend the RG570 over the Jem555.

yeah i liked the rg, its just i love the jem so much and i do plan on getting a lonestar strat in about 2 months so i really am just using it to get started, it looks so sleek and the handle is perfect.

thanks for the advice ive decided to hold off on the 555 and ill either get a 7d or a lonestar strat, thanks a lot!

I think the 555 is a decent guitar. *For a beginner? *Sure...why not. I wish I had a 555 as a first (or even second) guitar!!!*
It beats most of the other crap out there in regards to quality materials and construction.

The RG550/7xx is a fine ride too, but not as "Vai-ish" as the 555.

Try out as many guitars as you can. *
Buy the one that's most comfortable to you...whether it's Jacks*on, Fend*r, or even a 555.

Doesn't beat the RG550 at 1/2 the price used.

You'd take a $69 Str*t copy over a 555 as your first guitar? *Back away from the pipe......slowly.....

RG550's come with maple boards. *Not everyone is a maple board lover.

A TRS trem does NOT make a product "inferior".

Beginners should experience a wide variety of guitars... rosewood, maple whatever. Shouldn't matter.

All I'm going to say is that I would have MUCH rather had a cheap 555 over a Harmony as my first guitar.

Of course my 2nd guitar was a `87 Kramer with a Floyd on it...

PS: SOMEHOW the Kramer got destroyed, and all that was left was the Floyd. :thumbsup:

Now seriosly...I'll second Kevan... I wish I had a 555 as a first guitar. It's a decent axe anyway. You can't compare a 7x and a 555... it's not fair...

And the TRS trem is not that bad... I think it's just a matter of taste, although I love the Lo-Pro and hate the TRS...

Can anybody tell me what the real differences are between a TRS and my original Floyd above? *I've got a spare TRS and I can't hardly tell the difference. *Does it have to do with Metrology? *(off topic: In saying the TRS is a POS aren't we also saying that the Floyd is a POS?)
