JEM 555 Problem.
Right basically i baught a JEM 555 a few days ago (i dont really get why people say its not a JEM... because it is) and i have had problems with it...... the 21st fret on everystring chokes (when you bend it a little it cuts out) and the 22nd and 23rd fret sound exsactly the same as eachother (on everystring) now, also the LO TRS keeps making my G,B&E string out of tune quite alot... sometimes the E goes out by a semitone... the other strings are fine... (apart from the choking e.c.t) as i have thrashed the tremelo about alot and they stay in tune prefectly. Now i have sent it back to the shop... and they are either gonna fix it... Or send me a new one... (which i will get the to set up professionally) so... the problem should be sorted... as i think its down the the LO TRS not being set up (as i dont know how to do it). I dont really know why people are always moaning about the 555.... by saying its not a real JEM (which it is... otherwise it wouldent be called a JEM) Because its an amazing guitar... the LO TRS is perfect (once i get it set up) and the neck will be perfect (as thats easy to fix anyway) overall its an amazing guitar... but i spose people just dont bother getting it fixed... so they sit there saying its aload of ****e.... which it isnt.... Anyway.. i want you opinion. if the LO TRS goes out of tune (when its been set up) ... should i take it back a ask for a replacement and get the to make it work perfectly.... or... get money back and buy another guitar (ibanez) And... dont say stuff like... go and buy a 7V... im 14 .. and i cant afford it.

well the 555's aren't too great in my opinion, i think get your money back and get maybe like a prestige rg or a used jem. If you keep the 555 the lo-trs won't stay in tune most likely because it is a low budget korean version of the
floyd rose
. The ofr drops right in so you could replaced. For the frets i think the frets aren't finished right.

it could be a number of things. actions too low,
neck bow
is wrong, frets are not level, strings are rusting away...

Agreed. I had a 555 about 3 years ago and although it wasn't what a call a crap guitar, it doesn't compare to a 7v. For the same money I would buy a good MIJ RG.

Re: JEM 555 Problem.
well you can't aspect the lo-trs stay in tune for ever and ever like an edge, but if setted up well it will stay quite in tune also after 2 hours of gigging with it. if you don't use it much it will stay in tune, but first you have to stretch well the strings and set it the right angle. In fact the 555 is a good guitar, but there's really a reason for the diference of price between it and the others, i think that if it would cost only some hundreds euros less it would be a good afford.

Re: JEM 555 Problem.
return that sh** and get an RG1570 or something. you should'a asked me before you bought it. i would've told you the same thing.
now you see why people don't consider it a JEM. a gem is supposed to be something beautiful and precious. something of a very fine quality.

Re: JEM 555 Problem.
I agree on the RG Prestige recommendation. Return that sucker! You can do better. The 555 is a JEM, but not a real one.
Get an RG2550 or something.

Re: JEM 555 Problem.
Sounds like you got a really bad one - the guitar really shouldn't have those issues, and a replacement one, or a proper set up, will cure them.
You should ignore surly comments about the 555. If that is the guitar you want, then fine. Just remember you are choosing to pay for the name and the image rather than a quality instrument.
If I were you though, I'd take the money and get an RG - quality is more important to me than image. In comparison to a RG, the 555 has poorer quality components and will not serve you as well. The TRS is an inferior trem compared to the edge and its successors. The build quality and finishing on a 555 just isn't as good as a prestige RG either.

Re: JEM 555 Problem.
Indeed. What I dislike very much about the 555 is the little "
Steve Vai
" inlay at the top of the fretboard, especially since Steve said he never wanted his name on the JEM's at all. That inlay is just a marketing trick, and I think it's a very cheap move they shouldn't have made.

Re: JEM 555 Problem.
Just like the
Joe Satriani
inlay on the JS100.
A little off topic, but didn't Steve use a 555 neck on one of his own guitars?
