JEM 555 Quality - quality issues with the jem 555

Hello, i was just wondering if i could get a jem555 with a case at $400, and then put an low profile edge tremolo system in there, is that a better deal that spending about the same amount on a rg550 or 570, just comparing the 555 with lo pro edge to other non jem/uv ibanez models how does it compare, is it a guitar worthy of the ibanez name?

JEM 555 Quality

in order your answers, sir.

1. *Even at $400, the cost of outfitting a LoPro edge and refinishing would put you right at the cost of a used JEM.

2. *No, I would say it would be better to start off with a used RG-570 or better or a used JEM777, JEM77, or JEM7 model.

3. *Compared to other Ibanez models the 555 is significantly less valuable. *It was made in a Korean factory by lower-paid laborers and is more likely to have electronics issues. *The bodies are generally made of less acceptable woods. *The fretboard inlay is an unattractive half vine/half dot format. *And as you noted the bridge is completely inferior. *If we were to compare JEMs to a motor line, the JEM is Chevrolet's Corvette and the 555 is a Prism.

JEM 555 Quality

I agree. Getting a 570 is a better buy. A Jem 7xx is better, but will cost quite a bit more.

This has been widely discussed. the LoPro is NOT a direct swap. See FAQ/Links for more info, as well as archived topics in the forum... glen
