JEM 555> Opinions

Ok so I posted in another forum about getting a new guitar or two. Basically with a lil' help from my dad I might manage to blag a JEM555, but are they any good for that price?

Its costing around Ģ700 ($1,310) which I know I could get an ibanez S470DX and a RG320 for, so is it worth the cash?

How do they compare to the standard JEMs?

I tried the JS100 and I hated it, but the standard I loved. Can anyone give me some specs, or share any experience or advice with me?

I wouldn't buy a Jem555. Not at all.

Have you considered used gear?

I would in any case buy a Japanese Ibanez only.

Get a MIJ Ibanez. I would definately go for a 2002 or previus model. If you are decided about getting a new guitar and you are not familiar with Ibanez Id suggest this:

1) If you like the S series, get a MIJ Prestige S ( I think the current model is the S2075, but you can probably also find an S1625)
2) If you plan to buy a MIK Ibanez, try to either get either an S series with the ZR tremolo or a fixed bridge RG. I would avoid this guitars if you have the chance to get a MIJ guitar
3) Definately avoid the MIK jem 555.

Most stores should probably have some pre 2002 MIJ models, and they are likely to be at discount prices. That is what you should be looking for.

If the question is does JEM555 worth it at THAT price, my answer is NO. For this price the S470DX is more reliable guitar but diffrent specs (including new ZR trem). Jem Jr has excellent PU's (EVO's) but that's all. There was one at my local Guitar store and the guy tried to convince me to buy it. I played it for a complete weekend and I have to say that it sounds really good but I would not pay more than 700 - 800 Eur for this one. Not sure about in UK but there is a minimal difference of price between JEM7VWH and JEMM555. If you like EVO's tone, wait a little bit more and go for a new JEM7VWH.
Think about used one. It usually comes from people who don't like EVO's tone. and uses to be mint cond.

NO WAY that a 555 is worth $ 1,300. You caould proaby find an FP somewhere for that price. There is a reason they are called a Jem JR. I have played a couple and they FAIL in comparison with the real thing.
