Jem 777DY Insurance Replacement
Hi all.
I recently dropped my 777DY and the body has snapped from neck joint to the bottom strap holder straight through the right hand trem post. In other words snapped in half! Which I'm a bit sad about, however, I have accidental insurance cover and the insurance company are happy to provide "new for old".
Now the insurance company use a
music store
who have little experiance with
Ibanez guitars
so they have asked Ibanez themselves for the modern equivalent of the 777.
They say Ibanez has come back with the answer ... the Jem555!
This is why I'm posting here for a little more expert opinion. Can the flagship signature from back then have this as the modern "new for old" equivalent?
Thanks for reading this. I'd appeciate your thoughts.
Paul

Re: Jem 777DY Insurance Replacement
NO WAY!!
i'd dispute that.. i'd draw the line at a japan made jem for your japan made jem man...
the 555 is ot an accurate replacement. different quality lines, different status at it's time for how high end it is. i'm sure even the relative pricing would NOT work out!!!

Re: Jem 777DY Insurance Replacement
as an argument to put forward to them, i would say the jem555 is technically in a different line..
there are Japan made Jems and Korean made Jems, the Korean made line being a lower quality, cheaper alternative. yours was in the Japan made line and the direct descendent of that particular line is any Japan made Jem today.
i don't see how if they put that to ibanez, ibanez would dispute it... after all, ibanez will be making a sale..

Re: Jem 777DY Insurance Replacement
Thanks very much.
The 3rd party company is D@ws0ns Manchester and at the moment they are getting back to Ibanez to double check as I think they heard my jaw drop on the floor when they told me. I tried to explain that it was like an ESP KH2 being replaced with LTD KH602 (or whatever the equivalent is), this they seemed to understand. I now have concerns that if Ibanez say this again to them, how could I possible get the company to take on board other "expert" opinion?
EDIT: Incidentally Max, & only if you have the time, would you ask Ibanez the same thing ie what would they replace a 777 with.Thx

Re: Jem 777DY Insurance Replacement
if they're going to replace it, it should be at least a 7vwh or the new black one, its only fair, coz back then i guess the 777 was top of line and nowadays 7v is the top of the line...

Re: Jem 777DY Insurance Replacement
Is it not possible tha Ibanez has replacement DY Jem bodies in stock? I would realy prefer geting an new DY body (if available) and keep my old Jem, than a new Jem. Just my 2p.

After a complete overhauling of the facility? A model that was in production almost 20 years ago? Its rather unlikely.

Re: Jem 777DY Insurance Replacement
OK. gotta chime in here.
First of all what the f*ck are your insurance company doing asking the opinion of one of the sh*test music store to ever blight our fair North. It's a bit like the insurance company asking George at Asda their opinions on a like for like on an Armani 3 piece.
Secondly, what kind of insurance pollicy did you have ? Are you sure you've checked all the small print? My DY is insured for £3000 as an extra on my house insurance. It only works out at an extra £15 a year and for that I get 3 grand cash to buy the replacement guitar of my choice. BTW I can't just trash my guitar and pocket 3 grand I must provide a reciept for the guitar and if I only spend £1800 then that's all they pay out.
Anyhoo,
The 555 is a second rate Jem (not that it's a bad guitar mind you). You own a Top of the line Jem ( a collectors piece at that) and if they try and par you off with anything other than it's equivelent you should simply dig your heels in and say "No f*cking deal!". Buy the most expensive thing you can get them to opt for and then keep a close eye on e*bay to deal in your modern guitar.
The truth is you could strip your damaged 777 of it's Edge, PAF's, Neck etc and raise more than enough for a 555. Tell them your not going to accept the opinion of the fools at Dicksons and for Gods sake start kicking up a fuss. A big old fuss is the only thing these insurance folks seem to understand.
Once you've got everything resolved shop around for some better insurance.

Re: Jem 777DY Insurance Replacement
Hi Sunrise,
No way is a 555 a fair replacement for your guitar. Here in the U.K. a 7 series retails at around £1900 where as a 555 retails at around £900.With the models available at the minute i'd have thought the Jem77v (black) or Jem7v (white) would have been what you were given.I'd make sure the insurance company weren't just trying to get out of paying the full amount.

Re: Jem 777DY Insurance Replacement
Hi
Thanks for all the replies.
Thats what I thought .... 777 went to 77 which in turn to 7 series, the 555 (Jnr) isn't in that series so can't be a replacement.
I don't think it's the insurance, they're happy to pay for new for old and have no involvement at the moment. I understand that they will use the same music company for all instruments, pianos, clarinets etc. and this store is more tailored for those. It's kind of ironic that they're not even an
Ibanez dealer
though and can't get Ibanez guitars.... but its the value thing that needs sorting first.
Well I should get another call in the next couple of days and hopefully it will say,
"Yup, you were right. Jem 7 series it is"
If not I'll have to try and convince them otherwise.
Thanks to all.
I'll keep you posted, hopefully with more acceptable news.
Paul
EDIT: As an afterthought, would my Jem 777DY fit on a RG550DY 20th body?
