Jem 777LNG Numbers

Hi new to the board have a couple 777s : VDY MINT and a LNG...not so mint, all orig but has a couple chips, dings, and some wear on back, nothing thru the finsh, but the signature is long gone. It has a low serial number of 870036, wondered if there was any way of knowing the "number", if there was any record of serials vs. number? Best playin JEM ive ever had and Ive had a few! VERY resonant unplugged, etc. I live near LA and back in the day every hard rocker was playin a yellow or green, hence a bit-o-wear. Its the only one Ive run across in years. anyway if anyone could shed any light on the matter, THANX in advance...

Re: Jem 777LNG Numbers

Given your location and the plate number, I would say yours was a low numbered one. Is the case gray lined?

Re: Jem 777LNG Numbers

Nah, there's no way to really know without the case plaque. If it has the handrest that would make it one of the earlier ones. Mine is number 6 but it has a much higher plate number, as I recall, Rich said they used to keep the neck plates in bins and just grab them so that isn't really a great way of knowing either.

Re: Jem 777LNG Numbers

Yes it has the handrest over the trem... I could probly get it re-signed( friend of a friend,) but without the number seems a little pointless?

Re: Jem 777LNG Numbers

Just get it resigned and say it was no.69 dude!

I guess you didn't own it from new, so maybe someone on here might know it.

Still it is probably the most valuable LNG in the world if it is unsigned.

Re: Jem 777LNG Numbers

They weren't laid out in any semblance of plate order when Steve signed them

If there is no trace of black sharpie on the back it was probably grey market [brought in from overseas], signed on the trem cover, and somebody kept the cover.

Re: Jem 777LNG Numbers

It may be a long shot, but try holding it under a black light. If it was signed on the paint it would fade a little differently and while the eye might not see it, it might just appear under the black light.

Re: Jem 777LNG Numbers

Sharpie seeps into the clear itself. If it was signed there would be ruminants of it.

Re: Jem 777LNG Numbers

I guess if it was signed on the cover,( I took it off it looks orig) that could easier rob off Im sure....Only other clue is there is the slightest bit of pitting (gotta look close) to the clear where the sig would be maybe a clear vinyl overlay that ate the sharpie, or was cleaned off with some solvent. Oh well. Its still pretty sweet! color remains shiny and vibrant....Yeah Ive only had it a year or 2, bought it off a local CL ad. The guy knew what he had and wouldnt haggle much. Ilearned long ago paying"a little too much" is usually better in the long run!

Re: Jem 777LNG Numbers

Or more likely replaced.

Is the case super faded pink inside? Is the end of the headstock 3/4" from the end?

Re: Jem 777LNG Numbers

It's a UV1000, the case is a marriage, so does not signify it's a US guitar. I'm betting on grey market.

Re: Jem 777LNG Numbers

Which was let me guess LNG only? same years, I dont get the export thing or grey mkt... they were made in japan of course shipped here... so asian ones are greymkt? no case, sigs on cover? sent back from here I guess. Anyway havin fun with it. I cant play my VDY much as its Mint., forgot how great they play I played a DY back in the day. Funny how some people prefer the maple over Rosewd. Re: Jem 777LNG Numbers

Grey market, sold originally in ie. Germany, imported used into the US.

C just stands for Case.

JEM1000 with faded frosty pink interior with plaque would be an original LNG case for a "pink lined". Plaques do come off, but no mistaking the 87' case. UV case came out in 1990 and is longer to accommodate a UV and JEM.
