Not a chance, unless they took a real BFP, filled in the rear rout, painted the back, and routed it in the front, and then you have to ask yourself, why would somebody be so stupid?

Thanks Rich! I figured this one did not fly under your radar!!!
I thought at $1,250 it was a great buy until I looked closer...besides the seller has not had any activity for a long time and has a crappy feedback score! something really stinks here! at any rate, I sent the seller a bunch of questions, let's see if he responds...

Re: JEM 77BFP on the bay!!! help needed!
Ok so this is what the seller responded:
The guitar is exactly the same as it was the day i bought it from guitar center. I have never removed the pick guard to see if there was any damage behind it......i can tell you that there is no damage to the neck (cracks / warping) and it played like a dream the last time that i played it....as stated in the description, its been awhile since ive played this one, its more of a decoration these days. No abnormal fret wear (no buzzing or dead frets as of the last time it was played). Im not sure about the "front routed", can you clue me in on what that is, and i will do my best to provide you more info..........thanks for the inquiry!!!!!
I suppose it would be interesting to ask him to take off the pickguard and the neck to take some pics so we can look in the neck pocket! everything else looks accurate!

He probably bought it used, and maybe he actually thinks it is. Somebody got over somewhere.

Maybe you need to refresh on what a real BFP looks like

I actually did!
I looked at the gallery while posting the thread!
I was just curious since everything else seems to be in order!

Even though it seems like a copy, it looks like a good one. Custom made, I'd say. Don't know. I don't know anything about guitars anyway

Ok as a BFP owner just to clarify what's wrong...
Front should be sunburst in blue.
Front pattern is too big, (seems to have been "magnified").
Back should have floral pattern on it.
Body should be rear routed.
Scratchplate should be clear.
Logo should be silver (it may be but it looks white in the pictures)
Trem looks black, should be cosmo.
I *suppose* it could be a bfp with a new body, perhaps the old one was damaged and the floral pattern copied from it.

i would've been tricked by the front. The back gives it away though.

Maybe it is also a 1 of 5 prototype, owned by S. Via.
Probably refurbished in some way.
