JEM 77DY TREM ISSUE
Jempeople,
My
trem arm
on my Edge is annoying me, it keeps coming loose. When I use it feels unstable. I recently opened up the back cover and tightened the screw and that solved the problem for a few days but the looseness is back.
Do I have to keep tightening the damned thing?
Thanks

Re: JEM 77DY TREM ISSUE
You need to replace the bushs around the arm evey now and again, and make sure the holder is screwed in properly. Find something that will fit in the slots on the front of it.

I'll have another look at it again tonight and either post or PM you mate.
When you say "bushs" are those the plastic rings around the actual base of the arm?

Re: JEM 77DY TREM ISSUE
Another fix is to put a little nail polish on the arm under where the bushings go, then put them back on after it dries. That will give them enough extra push to be snug. Experiment a little as necessary to get the right amout on there. Some people have put a little duct tape on there under the bushings too.

Re: JEM 77DY TREM ISSUE
Bits of D'addario string bags to pad the arm out slightly works well also.

Re: JEM 77DY TREM ISSUE
Good tip. I know there is a thing used by dentists, a little metal ring that is perfect for the job, but I can't remember what it is called. A little research (google) would probably provide the answer.

Re: JEM 77DY TREM ISSUE
Good tips folks, but I somehow suspect it not to be the bushings, it seems to be a holding screw or something under the trem that keep coming loose. I will double check this later...

Re: JEM 77DY TREM ISSUE
if you want to get rid of the problem "virtually" forever, try these tricks:
put not one, but two hex nuts to lock the arm-holder on the baseplate, and use Loktite (don't know how you call that glue that tightens the screws):

Re: JEM 77DY TREM ISSUE
while you're at it, glue the arm-retainer spring screw also:

Re: JEM 77DY TREM ISSUE
then put a nice dab of silicone either on the hex nuts and on the arm-retainer screw.
i know it looks nasty, but it does work great and... who will ever see it? you can even smooth it out to make it look better, but it will be trickier to peel off, if ever needed. the silicone blocks the nuts and screws from vibrations, but it's super easy to peel off when needed, and it won't leave dirt or whatever. it works great and costs almost nothing.

Re: JEM 77DY TREM ISSUE
Crikey...that's alot more serious than I was expecting. But I think you are right, nuno. That nut, as seen in your pics, refuses to stay tight so I guess I have to Loktite it...
