JEM 7PBK vs RG - opinions needed !!!!

Folks, Im currently looking to get the 7PBK which is on evilbay at the moment.. thing is, ive never played one, I would be buying it on reputation alone.
I see that it has a wizard neck - like RG's and that the pups are PAF Pro's.

So.... would putting PAF pro's on an RG550 be the same thing ????

Im just trying to see where the extra money goes... and Im not interested in kudos, I want a better guitar than the two RG's I have at the moment.

Mate, forget that guitar, I just saw it.

That isn't a PBK because the monkey grip is wrong and the scratchplate too (along with loads of other stuff)

PBK's are awesome though if you do come across one.

Thanks for the advice mate, i'll give it a wide berth, but why??? I know that PBK's have a different grip and I did check the rest of the guitar against reference pics....hmmmm
http://www.vai.com/Machines/guitarpages/guitar022.html - check it here !

so, do ya reckon that the PBK is that much better than a well set-up RG4xx or RG5xx ?

Re: JEM 7PBK vs RG - opinions needed !!!!

I've had a look, and from the photo, it is a real Jem.

The monkey grip was like that on the early 7's, and what's wrong with the pickguard?. I can see nothing wrong with it at all.

The decent RG's such as the 550's always had slimmer necks than the Jem 777's and 77's, but the 7PBK has a very slim neck, I've got one myself you'll love it. The 7PBK and 7VWH are amongst the best playing Jems I own and ever made and are the only ones I would choose over an RG550+ on just playability and feel of playing

??? After looking at it for a bit, looks pretty much like the one I have sitting right next too me. You do know that the PBK along with the rootbear jem have the old style grip right? Pickguard looks like the original 3ply black-white-black to me. Edge trem, pearloid pyramids, Jem Case, what't wrong?

I would say that the guy has never answered any of my emails about this guitar, and that the one I already have I believe i got at the price it is now maybe cheaper and has less damage.

Not for the money.

£400 without the reserve being met? We can't even tell what trem is on it. If you are nearby by all means go and check it out. But I'd leave this particular guitar well alone and wait for an RG to come up whilst saving for a Jem

Whoa whoa whoa...

I've got this messed up. The item 7406532121 is DEFINITELY a PBK, my mistake. There is another Jem on there at the moment that just so happens to have what looks like a PBK neck on a 555 body and I thought that was the one you were talking about.

I saw this one 7408664704 first and because it wasn't until later in the thread that the other number was posted, I assumed it was this one. Apologies! Just trying to make sure no-one got screwed

Strange coincedence though eh?

Yea 7408664704 is a dud, looks like the sort of tripe ***5**0 churns out

But the other, 7406532121 is real. The 7PBK is seriosuly underated, one of the best players in the Jem line, most 7's are.

Re: JEM 7PBK vs RG - opinions needed !!!!

Glad we got that sorted out.

As for the RG vs Jem question, you'll find a million threads on the subject if you do a search. I haven't played a whole lot of either, but my feeling is that Jems are much nicer, in terms of build quality and materials.

If you like the Wizard and you like the look of the PBK, go for it.
