Jem body question

Is ash or mahogny best for a jem?

Alder and basswood are the most commom among production Jems. Out of the two you listed, I would go for mahogany, just because I like the tone you get out of it.

I'm thinking about making a custom one.....are those bodies on ebay usually ok?

The ones on ebay are usually not very good unless you get a parted out jem where the body is sold seperately. Your best bet it to contact EKG (www.ekgguitars.com). They are the best company for making Jem/PG/RG bodies and would definitely not dissapoint. Hope this helps!

Many of the bodies for Jems on ebay right now are well done and made by and ex-ibanez employee/designer.
They get good feedback on projectguitar.com

i'd rather buy one from ekg and know what i'm getting with my specs instead of taking a risk on ebay
