JEM BRMR

Was just wondering why production was stopped so quickly? It looks amazing in some pics and bland in others, does anyone have a pic that can properly represent it? Might have to go try it in Rotterdam.. Oh man damn these guitars..

You had to ask didn't ya hehe!

I think the main reason behind the discontinuance had to do with the binding coming lose from the body and in some cases the mirror finish cracking. I have not pesonally experinced either of those symptoms at all with mine.

So hence comes forth the VBK (same guitar without the mirror finish + a vine) and a great way to use leftover parts! Makes sense to me.

Also, I only hear great things and NEVER any complaints from people who actually own them. (not to say that there arent any, but I haven't heard them) But there are plenty of people who have never seen or played one with complaints go figure, lol.

I have 6 Jems older and newer. I can EASILY say without a doubt the my Brmr is the best Jem and far as tone and playability that I've ever owned!

Plus the girls love um because they can do their makeup whilst you play them a ballad

Re: JEM BRMR

Thanks for the reply! Looks great. Shame about the issues. Oh well at least they didn't stop making great looking/playing guitars over there and the legacy continues..

The only thing I've read about that guitar was positive. The Breeds also might have something to do with that, since usually Jems have PAF's/Evo's? And it looks completely insane with the blue leds on.

Re: JEM BRMR

Im sure the lack of decent inlays helped kill it too. Present examples excluded, of course.

Well I can say that the lack of inlays was the main reason I didn't get the Brmr when it first came out. I was like.....dots on a Jem???

But there are ways around these things I'm a sucker for a vine

but I'm gathering that Alex isn't bothered by the dots though but rather prefers them??? (especially with LEDS installed )

No, they just put their glasses on to read the tattoos, but they do hold their drinks closer

Re: JEM BRMR

No I agree dots on a Jem is weird, but something else would look kinda weird on it too so it's a lose/lose situation. I think it'd sell like hot cakes if it had the leds installed from the go, but that would drive the price up so maybe not.. hmm.

Re: JEM BRMR

I believe this are going to be pretty expensive in the near future. It has several features that make it a potencially collectible:

1) The only regular production jem model in the last 10 years to boost the "signature" cool factor that used to be expected from the jem line. As a matter of fact, the only 2 jems that meet this criteria in the last 14 years are in fact the BSB and the BRMR (anniversary models excluded).

2) The only jem that was introduced and extensively used by Vai as a prototype and THEN introduced as a regular production guitar

3) Highest list price of the jem line at the moment of introduction

4) Very few of them made (I recall Rich gave a very low figure about how many of them were imported into the USA). I guess no more than 400-700 of them were made.

5) Model discontinued due to production problems.

Bottom line, if you have the chance to get a NOS one, Id definately do so.

Re: JEM BRMR

They still seem to be available (new) from shops over here though - so not a full on collector's item just yet (though I agree with you RCB that it will become one)

e.g. http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/...-jem-77b/67254 (and GAK have confirmed they can get hold of them)
