JEM Floral Pattern touch-ups

I purchased a couple of FP's last year but didn't have time to dig into them to deeply. I had them all out over the holidays setting them up and doing some really thorough clean up. I noticed that one had been touched up at the factory while the burst was being applied. It looks like the fabric had gotten a little white or pale and the painter hit a couple of small areas while he had the gun loaded. This was definately done before the factory clear was applied. I have three FP's total and only one from 1991 has this. Has anyone else seen this done?

While I"m at it does anyone know how to strip the back plates to make them chrome only? They are all in bad shape there.

Never seen the kind of touchup you described. As for the plate, you can glass-bead blast it to remove all the plating but it will not be shiny like chrome. Most major cities have at least one plating company that might be able to clean and plate in real chrome or nickel. Another idea is to find a cutom motorcycle shop that does powder coating and have it recoated in black or something like the original cosmo finish.

Clean the plate with Brasso metal polish, a rag and a lot of elbow grease, should look great...

I did that to a couple plates and got rid of old paint, gunk and rust and ended up shiny and pretty

Is the plate steel or aluminium?

My FP had some holes in it that are being professionaly cleaned up and air-brushed. So far you can't really see them and it's not even in clear coat yet, but it's costly.
