jem headstock plate - what do people think

I've had produced some headstock plates in clear perspex with the ibanez and jem logos engraved from behind and then filled with a rather cool green.
i had them produced for a custom job i'm doing on my 777SK. just wanted to know what people think.
also if your interested i have a couple spare.
i refinished the headstock in shocking pink again and used the plate to cover the headstock. added the hardware and bingo.

i have a picture on my homepage of the plate.

thanks
jerry

It looks like nice work, but if it says IBANEZ and JEM on it I would proceed with caution regarding selling it. Just some friendly advice ... glen

thanks glen, a good point and noted.
just getting rid of the overs. i have changed the design slightly as well so its not totally acurate. the effect does work well though, just waiting to get my body back from Darren (atd) now.
sadly as needs must though i think i may be selling her as soon as she gets here due to personal comitments.
bit of a bugger.

hey jerrye!
that looks pretty cool! how do you attach it? do you use glue, screws, or it is just held in place with machine heads? how much did it cost to do one of those? i was thinking about doing something similar for my guitar, and this guy is asking me about 25$ for engraved headstock and 35$ for engraved pickguard; something like JEM10. i think it is a great price, and i will do it. i just can't make up my mind about a graphic. i am sure only that i don't wan't a copy of something. i could sure use some suggestions. jemsiters, please e-mail pics of cool engraved pickguards and headstocks!

almost forgot.... jerrye, do you need to sand down the headstock? it is a pretty thick piece of plastic.

Attached, with the machine heads, i am thinking about other means, but this works pretty well. i paid around the same for the headstock. i had the guy make me a clear pickguard as well, but with no engraving. the beauty is that i can have them made in just about any finish including brass gold, ali and chrome. and of course all the standard plastics.
i have a few ideas for custom pickguards, but i find its very individual, what are your interests? what floats your boat? have a look at tatoo artist books for some way out designs. lots of places to look.
the headstock plate is not that thick, and no modification is needed.

i wonder what happens with those pickguards that are made from brass, chrome, aluminium & stuff like that, when they get in contact with sweat? don't they change color? i believe that it wouldn't look so nice...then they should be polished every day....
i thought about using aluminium, but i will go with black plastic w/ silvery top. the top is very very thin, so the engraving will not have to be deeper than like 0,2mm. and that top coat is very durable. i tried to damage it with a screwdriver and it didn't come off. so my choice of material is made.
i think jem10 is awesome, but i don't want to copy it. but i would sure like to do something with the pyramid w/ eye.
any other ideas are welcome. except skulls, bones and stuff like that. i just want a piece of art on my guitar.
tattoos might work. i thought about it before, but thanks for your suggestion anyway.

Jerry, continuing on from the Jemsite discussion we had about this (in the bar, funny that!) I think I'd be interested in finding out a little more about this. Both my Jems have *transparent pickguards but I think something like a JEM10 customengraved guard would like fine on a 'plain' looking Jem.

Now I know the story about the template and fit but does your manufacturing chum have the capability to take say a WMF or other vector based image to have the engraving done by machine? If so how about some form of template file that we could then drop another layer on top of, see the pickup holes, neck position, PU selector, knob position etc and then put a design around these constraints?

I suspect that this should be relatively easy to achieve... just not too sure about the mechanics of the engraving process.

Is it a white plate with green writing?
The "JEM" needs to be a little bit to the right I think...

So... why would one want one on their headstock?

YngVaiTriani
its green engraving on a clear plate. the idea is that if your custom finishing your headstock, the colour or design shows through. yes the jem is a little to the side, it is not 'exactly' a copy.
