I believe Matt Bellamy (Muse) has a custom Poplar guitar covered with aluminium, the 'Mattocaster'. Made for him by a company here in the UK.

You mean Hugh Manson guitars? They make his regular customs. I'll have to check out this "Mattocaster."

Personaly, I don't care if it is chome, mirror, or dipped in platinum! the finish looks good, you obviously took some initiative to try and accomplish a difficult finish.
As long as you stand behind your work after it is completed, that is all you need to be concerned with.
I hope you have tremendous success........focus on the positive!

p.s. Rich, that GG&G JS body is horendous beyond limits.
I expected a bad job but as we all know you are mucho picky and see things most of us will just ignore but this really IS bad - by anyone's standards.

The GG and G guitar
I now understand Rich.. the finish is horrid. As for
Martin Sims
.. his work is VERY good, he does all the Led work in my guitars and always delivers a stunning job. He has finally developed a nice mirror perspex body cover similar to the Bad horsie guitar but without the crazing on the heel. Its not cheap but looks fantastic..

You might not raise the ire of so many people here if you called it a "mirrored film" finish instead of "chrome".
Chrome plating is a very specific process that gives a very specific result, and that is perhaps where many people's bone of contention lies. It's not chrome and advertising it as such is a little misleading.

I don't know how Mansons plate Matt Bellamy's guitars but they surely look impressive. Here's a pic of his "chrome" one:

And here's more info about Matt's guitars (he owns an Aloha Strat as well!):

At the moment Hugh Manson is working on two new
custom guitars
for Bellamy.

Matt Bellamy's guitars can actually be plated because they have metal bodies.

I don't know, they look good from far away, but they're still rough even in the pictures, and pictures can hide A LOT. If I sent my guitar away to be chromed, and I got this back in return, I would not be pleased. Looking at some pics of the bad horsie, it is the mirror chrome behind clear that they make the pickguards out of, the edge is hidden by the binding. At least that's my best guess, I'll let you know for sure after NAMM. Anyway, here is a Sims job from their website, this is one of the precise reasons I have never offered Chrome finishes, I've spent a pile of money on the different systems, and I'm not happy enough to offer it to my customers.......

? The site that CxV8 gave says that Matts guitars are made of either poplar or mahogany if you look at the specs for each one.

That first chrome bomber one is precisely why plating doesn't work, notice how bad he said it turned out, hence the rivets and airbrushing on it.
The Silver manson is a poplar body with aluminum body covering, I would assume this means a sheet aluminum top on it, something glued onto the wood, not plating.....
When he says "I plated the whole thing" I think he means used a Plate "sheet" of aluminum that was cut to fit and applied. It's not an actual plating process.
The Laser Manson is cracked mirror, just like the
Paul Stanley
iceman guitars were, again, no form of chrome plating.....
The aloha strat is actually an aluminum body, this can be chromed without a problem
Hope that clears things up a bit

Chroming - Bad Horsie
I have had regular correspondance ( Msn and E-mail ) with Mark and he's a genuine guy that seems to put a lot of hard work into his products and also seems to fret ( Bad pun ) and stress over every minor detail, in relation to the guitar he's working on. He's also really helpful and a nice guy to talk to. It was actually me that brough this thread to his attention and it was upsetting to see people slating his work without having seen it, or even knowing anything about it.
That said he seems to have cleared the issue up and got a bit of free publicity with it. His work is in high demand and all the best to him.

Re: JEM/RG Chroming service on ebay, UK
then what about steinberger guitars? the GL(or GU??) is made of some composite material.. but i don't think they'd look good anyway, chrome or not.
