Jem Single question...

Wich Dimarzio SingleCoil pickups are closest to the Jem Single in order of sound. Any recomendations ? Since im thinkin of changing to green pickupps on the FP and adding a EVO at the bridge at the same time, i must get a green dimarzio single.. Otherwise the sound ill be looking for is as close as possible to a strat, especially on setting nr2 (neck and single), you know that crystal clear strat-clean... heheheh

BTW another question, in setting nr2 and nr4 on a JEM, is the hummbuckers in singlecoil mode (like coil tap) ?

thanx / Jay

Yes, positions 2 & 4 have the hums running in single. You could always just get the cover for the single, if you want to keep the Jem single. People have stated that the Jem Single is close to/is an HS-3.

Jem Single question...

I have a Dimarzio VirtuAL 2 Bridge p'up in my BFP (between an evo and a paf) wired as a single coil and split with the hums in the 2 & 4 position. *It sounds WAY better than any Jem single coil. *

Some have recommended to me having the outer neck coil (closest tot he fretboard) coil turn on in the #4 split, rather than the inner. *I have it set on my UV that way. *I'm not sure i could tell the difference in a A/B test, but hey...nobody gets hurt.

And in answer to your question, from what i understand, the Jem Singles are custom tailored to match the pickups they're grouped with, i.e. the middle in the 7d (breeds) is different from the one in the 7V (Evos), which is different form the odler ones (PAFs). *And yes, all resmeble the HS-3 and have lame output and are relatively useless. *If you're going to spend the money, get the Virtual 2.

Actually, I think the closest approximatin of the Jem single, according to DiMarzio, is an HS-2 run in single-coil mode. *I think that was for the PAF Pro-era Jem single though.

If you're looking for a different sound altogether, the Blue Velvet is nice, and has enough output to keep up with the HBs.

If you want to preserve the Jem sound, I'd go with Iain's suggestion and just get a green cover from DiMarzio.

The Bridge p'up in that pariticular line has a slightly hotter output.

Bridge: Output 145mV
DC Resistance 9.11K

Middle:Output 125mV
DC Resistance 7.45K

Neck: Output 128mV
DC Resistance 6.98K

Presumably, they beef up the bridge because the string isn't as 'loud' down at the end near the bridge as it is closer to the fretboard. *I asked Steve Blucher (THE MAN at Dimarzio). what he recommended for a single that would cut and would not suffer such an extreme volume drop from the hums to the splits. *VirtuAL2 is what he said, that's what i did. *And i love him for it. *
