personally for me, YES, but it depends where I'm going.

for instance a sweaty nightclub miles from home would result with the JEM staying at home. A more local locale might result in me taking it out which would mean turn up, sound check, stay with insturment (or looked after by trusted person during toilet break), gig, go home staight away... or use my Kramer its easier

I bought UV's and my BSB as they were great playing instruments and i like the look of them, however, strangely, i am not a vai fan by any means, but i do think he's designed excellent playing and looking guitars!

Re: Jem user poll

I wanted a good playing, good looking excellent instrument. I got all that (for me) in the JEM. I do not care if it is Vais Signature or not, thankfully it does not have his signature anywhere...
I use it all the time, practicing, gigging anywhere. It is ment to be played all the time and it can handle rough times. (I have a 7vwh and might buy a vbk soon).
If it breaks I would buy a new one. For me it is worth the extra price compared to an prestige RG, where I would have to switch pups etc. I just got the 7vwh with the Evos, which I love to death, with a killer setup from Rich and do not need to change anything other than strings and upkeep the setup with slight adjustings.

Re: Jem user poll

I'm not in a band so live use of my guitars is a non-issue, but I'd be more curious to know how many people own some of these expensive instruments and literally never play them?

Start your own poll.

Interesting results at this point:

Gigging/non-gigging : 25:22
Vai-style music/other style music : 10 : 37

Hmmm...

I never play my JEM 20th, DY, or BFP...as well as a slew of others. Some due to the monetary value they may bring in the future, and some because the guitar just doesn't vibe with me. One of my favorite guitars is the old Kramer Gorky Park Balalaika. It's worth next to nothing but I can't bring myself to get rid of it because it is such a kick @ss looking axe.

I always play my FP, my Parkwood H2, and my Alvarez Classical...My main 3

Re: Jem user poll

When I bought my 777dy in '87, i was lucky to have the salesman convince me to try it. I was familiar with Vai's DLR work, but had never seen a Jem before. Fell in love with the instrument, not it's creator.

I have since used it to play myriad styles of music, including Vai.

Not in a band, so gigging not an issue.
