I am a collector of sorts. I have some pre-cbs and some early gibsons. I play them all the time. Have I depreciated the value of them? A little. So my early
Les Pauls are worth a little less than what a mint one would cost. Who cares. They are still obsenely higher valued than what I paid for them in the late 70's.
If a guitar is real collectible it will appraise hundreds of times higher than it's original cost when it was new. If it doesn't than it wasn't really a collectible, was it.
Anyhow, do you really think the kid that plunked down a couple hundred bucks in the late 50's new that the LP he was buying was going to be worth 100 grand in 40 years. Doubt it. So it was played.
I have seen some pretty beat up LP's going for some outrageous bucks.
Guitars are made to make music, not to hang on a wall or be locked in a closet...
Just my 2 cents
