Hey Gabe,

Since you don't treat yours like a collectible, how 'bout trading that case for mine? *I just bought a 10, but it's coming with the regular black case the Aussies get! *I'll even throw in a little cash and pay for all the shipping!

;-)

If you're quite happy collecting it and not playing it then that's fine, there's nothing wrong with that.

I know absolutely zilch about your climate, but if the board is drying out then oil it a couple of times a year.

Don't soak the board, just use a cotton bud, but also don't wipe it off immediately, give it 15-20mins to soak in and then wipe off the excess.

You will find that after oiling and leaving a few times you may get a build up of gunk right in the corner between the wood and fret. This is easily removed with something like a laminated piece of card.

You may want to lightly oil the hardware at some point too.
You can use again a cotton bud and some 3-in-1/wd40 or light grease.
Don't spray/apply directly. Put it in a pot first so you can dab the bud in it.

I think you should at least dab the bud and try to lightly lubricate the truss rod threads.
Just pop the truss cover off and see if you can get the bud down there to give them a little moistening.

I know I may be going to extremes here, but If you want it in pristine condition bearing in mind long storage times, it doesn't hurt to do these things.

Steve

I can understand the "collectors thing".

As some of you guys know I keep on going on about my new DNA 285/300. Anyway, here I go again.

I love playing it. It is the best guitar that I have and that I've played. But....

Well, the body doesn't have any surface scratches on it (touch wood). The scratch plate is still clear, but it's getting that oily residue on it (which is getting harder and harder to get off without putting surface scratches on the scratch plate), and everything still looks new.

To prove how *****
(silly) I'm being with this guitar, I'm using a brand new white cotton t-shirt to wipe the body with (lightly) every now and then. (no polish)

To get to the point, I don't want to scratch it. And I don't want to see surface scratches on it. But I know that they'll appear.

But what the hell. It's a guitar. It's meant to be played, and I love playing it.

my 2 cents,
Wil..
