Jem555bk
Hi, I'm thinking on buying a second hand jem555bk, think it's a model from around 2002, it has a lo-trs II, been sitting in the store for around 2 years unplayed.
The trem was totally pulled back, and I've been playing with it for a couple weeks now and I think I got the setup about right, but it has some tuning issues. When I pull the trem and go to original position some strings go out of tune, could be it's string related (these are brand new strings I put when I brought the guitar home). And I also read that the trs II trem is the crappiest trem around.
Should I keep it, 700 might be a little expensive for this guitar?

Re: Jem555bk
too much money for a 555. In the USA, they rarely get more than $500 on the used market.

Forget 555 and buy a RG or S series with your money.

Get an RG, Paulo. If not, hold out for a real used Jem.

Re: Jem555bk
It's not even in good condition, with its warped pickguard and rusted screws. And still, that price blows for one in great condition, considering that it's practically a low-end RG with Evos, a handle, and a tacky half-vine inlay.

Re: Jem555bk
For the european market thats not terribly bad. They can be picked up new for around 1100 from one of the german sites and the new ones come with improved trems.
I always laugh when i see people destroy the 555, i've got one and its my main axe ahead of my PGM and Prestige RG. I know at least 2 Jem7 owners (one a Jem777vbk and the other a jem7v) who've played my 555 and said its easily as good as their guitars if not better. dunno if I just got lucky but I've tried both their higher end Jems and not felt as at home as with my 555.
As for it not being as good as a decent RG well imho thats pure and utter s***e. The tremlo of course is terrible but can easily be replaced with an OFR, and the hardware isn't great but has held up for me through 6 years of constant gigging and being thrown around where as most RG's fall apart after a couple of years.
edit: Actually looking at that its in terrible condition I'd pay 700 for a 10/10 condition one but not for that, offer him 350 or so and use the rest of the cash to fix it up and get a proper floyd. Thats in terrible condition.
