Jem555BK Pickup Problems

Hi guys,Just want to ask if this is normal...
Let's say i'm playing a certain lick using the bridge pickup then while holding a note i suddenly switched to the middle pickup(H-S-H right i selected S)then the volume instantly became softer...o and the sustain in this pick up is also short.....

can you recommend any pickup height settings?(other than the one suggested at the setup page) thanks!

Re: Jem555BK Pickup Problems

The middle pickup is no where near the power of either humbucker so the volume drop is pretty normal. You could try raising the middle and lowering the humbuckers if you want a more even balance between all. I generaly use the 2 and 4 position which maintains most of the volume and rarely if ever go to just the single.

The 555 has evos, which are loud as hell.
The middle pup will always sound low.

Re: Jem555BK Pickup Problems

My 555 came with PAF Pros actually. I think they were switched out before I bought it

I'm usually either using neck or bridge, so I don't really have that problem. However, when I want to switch to the neck/middle config, I notice that the volume changes a bit like you say.

Re: Jem555BK Pickup Problems

When you think about it, the single on a jem has to give those stratty tones when used with the coil tapped humbuckers. This means that it would need to be about half as loud as the humbuckers! Therefore position 2 and 4 sound great but 3 is a bit weak.
You could raise the pickup, but to get it loud enough I suspect you'll find that either the tone suffers due to the increased magnetic field interfering with the string vibration, or, it will get in the way of your picking. *Most* people feel that the single on it's own isn't very useful (and I'd agree), infact I'm thinking of changing that selection to both humbuckers or something. I love positions 2 and 4 though.
