Jem777LNG estimate

There's an LNG at a store here that's asking $1100 CAN (approx. $700-800 amer.). I think it's a bad offer becuase;

A) Major dents in paint and body
B) Vai's signature completely rubbed off
C) typical crack on the side of the neck pocket and above the scarf joint
D) Tone pot replaced with a kill-switch
E) Other little things like bridge pickup replaced, back spring plate missing...
F) The neck is extremely dirty

The whole guitar is really grungy...needs a major clean-up/setup...What's a reasonable estimate?

I bought LNG #387 five years ago for $500 in player condition with unoriginal pickups if that helps. I sold it in the same condition for $700. I think it's a fair price for a player's condition, especially if it has the OHSC.

the only non fixable things are the dings and the signature. i would offer them about 600US considering replacing the tone pot, pickups and cover.

does it have a case? also check for neck twisting, that'a major problem that may not be fixable.

(that's what i'd pay, not a market price estimate based on my non existant experience )

Have you considered paying little bit more for a better LNG or are you trying to find one to meet a certain budget?

I was just wondering because you really don't sound excited about getting this one...

My advice to you is find another LNG to buy... I think that one is over priced. IMHO.

$1100 Canadian for a LNG (that's just under $700USD) is a fair price for that condition I think. The cheapest I've seen a VG to excellent condition is $1200USD.

If you want a LNG, $1100 Canadian seems fair IMO. The finish can be redone if you want for not that much, necks can clean up, all in all, you could have a minty looking LNG for about $1600 Canadian without a sig.

As a point of interest, today, $1100 Canadian equals $687.43USD

$1100 would probably come in at just under £500. That seems like a bargain to me!

What I'm saying is, the guy has no interest in cleaning it, setting it up, throwing in a case or anything before he sells it. I could do it all my self, but that takes from my time which I could be playing it.

I'd like to own the guitar as it is...just with a clean neck, set up and new strings...but if it had the autograph, and he cleaned it up before he gave me the price, maybe I'd pay 1100.

$600-$700. No more than $700 for the guitar you described. I've owned 2 Jem LNG's, one played (5 out of 10 condition) and one Excellent (9 out of 10).

I'll agree with Gabe but I think we've had pretty lucky finds. I've seen them go between $1200 and $2200.00 dollars. I got mine (it's signed #3) from a guy in 1998 for $500.00. I'd consider it 7.5 out of 10. the pickups seemed light to me and the headstock faded a bit. The edge of the fretboard on the bass side by frets 1-3 is a little rough. It sounds worse than it really looks. I'm picky. It had an excellent condition original case with it, original papers, and the signature was intact. I would've paid more for this condition based on what I've seen.
