jem77brmr

On the mirror jem how is the finish on it? Is it painted or like.. actually mirror/glass? Is it solid or chippable/dentable like normal painted guitars?
I'm considering buying one since i want to get my first 'expensive' guitar and i sorta miss basswood.

Re: jem77brmr

From what ive seen/read its very chippable, its not like a paint of coat. Please correct me if im wrong! They are amazing guitars, and I think of one the nicest JEM's made if you get the chance get one!

Re: jem77brmr

I think it's a very thin layer of something reflective on top of the wood, with a clear coat on top of that. I haven't noticed it being chippable more so than any other guitar... I haven't exactly babied it, but I'm not drop kicking it or anything like that either. I think I have one minor scratch in the finish that you can notice if you hold it up to the light and angle the guitar just right and look really hard, otherwise it has held up far better than I thought it would.

I do remember doing the Evo Experience a few years ago before my guitar arrived, seeing Vai's look rather beat up, and thought that it still looked pretty darn good, so I stopped worrying about it at that point. I can see about trying to get a picture or two on photobucket or something so you can see what it looks like at this point, I don't polish the finish as often as I should, so it's often covered with fingerprints and sweat from my forearm, but then it cleans up real nice when I do get around to cleaning the finish.

I think I figured out the whole posting images thing, but it's probably easier if you just go to the album, should be 7 pictures there now with the brmr... http://s313.photobucket.com/albums/l...prather_bucket I apologize for being such a goofy looking dolt, I can't do anything about that at this point.

I got a BRMR recently, having never seen one in person before, I was pleasantly surprised that the binding is pealroid. Nice touch IMO.

Re: jem77brmr

It's an acrylic top. No, it doesn't necessarily flake or chip easily, although Ibanez was notorious with this model, and a significant portion have problems in the acrylic mirror top itself, and/or with the binding (which I think is a nice touch as well).

Overall, it's my favorite JEM, buy it and if you don't want it I'll take it

Re: jem77brmr

Keep it out of sources of extreme heat. Acrylic is very strong, however, it'll crack if you leave it sitting in the sunlight for prolonged periods... or leave it in the car, etc...

Re: jem77brmr

im g.a.s.ing out lol
for the same price of a brmr I could probably get close to the price of a S5470 + Esp M-2. Which i've also been wanting.
But I also want a 2170 (mmm burl top)
I would be just as happy having a brmr as a 5470 and m2.
I have money for all of them, but I don't want to go crazy here. ughhhh, decisions decisions

Is there a limited supply of new brmr's left? and what about burl topped 2170's?

Re: jem77brmr

Production of BRMR's stoped in 2005/2006 I think, they do not make them anymore so if you can get one brand new your doing ohk for your self! Im not sure how many were made though.
