I'll just add that they have what I would call the most raw sound of any JEM. I think that's due to the lack of the finish found on the other JEMs, it's a very crisp and pure sound.

So, are they totally unfinished? *I would sure hate to gig a guitar that pretty and not be able to clean it up well afterwards. *Please excuse my ignorance to some of these subjects, I am just getting back into the Ibanez world again. *I still have an old ('92 I think) RG770DX. *Could someone compare the neck, bridge and pickups in it to a couple of the Jems? *I know it sounds like a stupid question. *Sorry, it's just been a while.

Thank you all.

ps--What about the Jem7RB? *There's one of those on ****, too.

The BSB body and rear neck is burnt and oiled. The finish will wear and scrape off so take that into account. There is no clearcoat over the finish. IMHO it's the perfect stage guitar that encourages WEAR (think SRV's main strat).

The RB is great too (like all JEMs sans 555) but it has the old-neck joint which is a bit clunkly compared to the AANJ of the BSB. The RB has the PAF Pros whereas the BSB has the hotter/harsher Evolution pickups. I like the PAF Pros better but decide for yourself.

You can see more commentary in the old Jemsite forum and in the jemsite --> guitars area (spec sheet, commentary, etc).

They're both fantastic. You should be happy with either one... glen

The 7RB is definitely my favourite JEM, but i do kinda like the BSB, but would prefer it with no pickguard and in a different colour other than teal blue. (Hmm... I wonder if it'd take a second coat of stain to darken it down.)

Oiled finishes are awesome. They don't get slick or sticky after playing on them for a while... nice and soft like a baby's bum.

What can I say? *You all give wonderful advice. *I'm not sure I'm gonna buy this bad boy, but I sure am getting wound up about it. *I guess I'll ask the little woman and see exactly how long I'll be in the dog house over it. *Heck, If I buy it I may not even have a dog house to be in!

Thanks a ton!!

The BSB is an awesome player as are all the JEM's, well the one's that I've tried anyway...( YES even the 555 )
It might be wise to slap a clear pickguard on the BSB though as the finish is easy scarred.

Steve

P.S. the JEM copy I'm putting together with a local luthier ATM is based on the VWH except the fact that I'm going for a BSP finish ( burnt stained purple )
Pics ASAP

Comparing the 770 to the BSB:

The BSB should have a slightly thicker neck, and it won't be coated with 3 inches of plastic like the 770 neck.

The BSB has the Lo Pro Edge trem and the 770 has the regular Edge. Some prefer the Lo Pro, some prefer the regular. I consider them equals.

There's also the cosmetic differences which you can already see.

The BSB has the AANJ, and the 770 doesn't.

They are both great guitars and will accompany eachother nicely.

You know.......I'm gettin' sappy here. *I've received more info here than I can believe. *You are all awesome. *I've never been introduced into a cooler situation than this. *Although, here in the middle of Nowhere, Illinois, there are a few decent guitarists. *The area kinda blows, but the people are pretty cool. *I guess I stayed after work too long and drank too many beers. *THERE'S NOTHING ELSE TO DO HERE!!! *

Seriously, thank you all. *This site kicks so much a$$ it's scary.

As long as we're straying off topic, I have to agree.

I don't own a single Ibanez or JEM (okay, so i'm a freak) but i enjoy hanging out here because it's a genuinely friendly atmosphere, populated by considerate, knowledgeable people who like to share info, insights and stories about guitars and music and other stuff in general.

It can never be said enough. Thanks, Glen and all the others who make Jemsite and the forums possible.

I love the look of the BSB. The only thing I don't like is the neck finish. If Ibanez had left it natural and just done the headstock face, it would have been that much better. As for a clear pick guard, the BSB is top routed for the electronics. However, it would add to its industrial look.
