Jem7v Trem Problem
I bought a Jem7v(2007built) New from guitar center and after having it i noticed it wasnt staying in tune when using the whammy bar. The guitar was taken back then sent to a Licensed Ibanez specialist and He said it was a bad Trem. Ibanez sent out a new trem and it was put on the guitar and still wasnt staying in tune. My guitar was then sent out to Ibanez and then i got it back a month later and still didnt stay in tune. Guitar center switched my guitar with a 2008 Jem7v they had there and was taken to the Specialist to make sure it had no problems and that guitar didnt stay in tune. So its these Trems on the newer Ibanezs. They pretty much suck and i dont see how they can sell the guitar with this huge problem. There needs to be a recall.
Guitar center is again going to swith with a guitar from a different guitar center and if that doesnt work then im down to spending $500 to custom fit a Real floyd rose Trem on my Jem or Guitar center is going to try and find me a older Jem or getting a different guitar which i already tested the Dave narvarro PRS and petrucci and both guitars arnt my taste.
This sucks cause i really like the Jem and this problem has been going on since November

Information on either, how you're not following procedure that's causing tuning to fluctuate, or how to sort out the few bugs the trems do have to make them function as they should.

Re: Jem7v Trem Problem
I had the same problem but I could not use warranty (you can see my post "My brand new Ibanez needs a new bridge!". I simply didn't have time to take it back to Ibanez during the warranty period. I actually thought that a good setup would solve it. And in the end it did.
I am sure it is worth fixing it instead of getting another guitar - not JEM. Having said that you are totally right in that Ibanez should never have let such thing happen. It should come out of the factory in a good condition. The bad thing is that we love the JEMs otherwise I would not think twice before getting another guitar.

Re: Jem7v Trem Problem
Im still waiting on my 3rd Jem from the other guitar center and if it doesnt stay in tune there needs to be a recall on the Trems because this is a big issue for a 2-5k guitar with steve vai's name on it.

It will be zero different than the other 2. The problem is either you, or something that needs to be dealt with on all of them. You can cry, scream, rant, and rave, but better time would be spent explaining exactly what the problem is, how and when it happens, so you can be directed as to how to remedy it.

Re: Jem7v Trem Problem
I think I know your problem... You're buying a guitar from GuitarCenter. They really don't treat guitars well. At my local GC, I have only met two employees who could actually play guitar well, and they were also the only two that knew how to setup a floating tremolo.

Re: Jem7v Trem Problem
Excuse my ignorance but this just sounds like the usual 'locking nut isn't tight enough, trem saddles are not parallel to the body etc...' just the same stuff we always hear about.

Re: Jem7v Trem Problem
only a bad workman blames his tools, any trem stays in tune (within reason) if setup properly, I'd advise you to ignore the GC bull.s.h.i.t about it going to an "ibanez specialist" and just read Rich's pages and get it setup, you'll not have a care in the world with it then.

Re: Jem7v Trem Problem
I got an 08 Jem at GC arround christmas and have had zero problems with the trem staying in tune. The only problem i had was that it was set up horribly and the strings were rusty. A new set of strings and a complete adjustment was in order. Remember if you change strings on a guitar that hasnt been played much the strings will stretch and go out of tune. As everyone else has said Ibanezrules or the set up guide on this site, otherwise its probably you.

Re: Jem7v Trem Problem
Hmm its not me cause im not the one setting these guitars up. Sad i spend this kinda money and my downtime is now 5months. You cant say i just happen to run into 2 lemons in a row when recalls happen all the time. Its easy for Ibanez not to have a contact number because they had my guitar and it came back the same way or they would already have heard from me.

If you are unable to answer this question in detail then I would say 90% of the problem is you.

Re: Jem7v Trem Problem
Hi blake,
Where do you live?
I'm sure we can find a competent tech to sort this out. I've been using locking trems for over twenty years now. I've only run into one bad trem and tons of bad setups.
