Jem7v Vs RG2550

Hi all you guys!

This is my second post!

The fact is that my dream (jem7vwh) is too too too expensive for my poor wallet right now, so i'm changing to a cool looking new rg2550...i know the price difference is huge, and i'd like to know if it's just due to Steve Vai signature and extra money finishes (like tree of life etc) of if there are some major and noticeable differences...

So, anybody of you own both the jem7v (no matter if Wh or VSBL) and rg2550?
How does these axes compare in terms of sound and playability?
I know exactly the specs differences of the two (pick ups, necks, woods etc), i just need an "hand's on" comparison...

Looks like a nice guitar. Looks like a DBK minus the Jem specs and finish. It is a Prestige, however, and should play nice for you while you save for the 7VWH.

Damn, I want one.

I've always been a fan of the 550 x550 line as I prefer a pickguard and the HSH configuration, but the 550 here in the states only comes with a maple fretboard, and I've grown to prefer rosewood.

Why do they have such varied line-ups from country to country?

Just to add, I was even tempted to buy a 1550 and a 1570 and swap the necks, then sell the 1570 with the maple board on it . . .

Still an option at this point.

Ok, i'm mostly concerned about pickups differences....I know the Evos are very high output, screming pups, but I miss any information about DiMarzio/IBZ fitted in the rg2550.......
For the rest, the 2550 seems pretty similar to the Jem7dbk: same woods, neck, bridge, fretboard.....so there should be no difference in playability between a DBK and a Rg2550...or am I wrong?

Please help!

I'll keep that in mind, but that won't be for a while, if at all.

I may ask Rich if he can get a 2550 like Andrea is looking at.

I'd still love to know the logic here, I'd love to have that guitar, it's almost perfect for me, but not offered in the States.

why not get a dbk?

its perfect axe and it sounds as good as the 7V if not better....

For a lot, cost. They just don't have the scratch for it, and for me, I don't like the lumpy finish and I HATE the "screw head" inlays.

But that's just me.

yeh i dig the lumpy finish too.
For me it is a much more "metal" guitar if you know what i mean. Mainly because of the breeds.

And to be fair, the inlay is only their for decoration and to tell you where you are on the fretboard.

But to eachs tastes!

I'm lumpy enough for me and my guitar, so I'd rather have a smooth guitar. ;-)

i agree with you. looks much better playing rock and metal on a DBK than a SK or FP, in my opinion......

I don't own both guitars (though I do have both the 7DBK and 7VWH that you're talking about) but I know you could get a minty used 7DBK for the same price as a new 2550. We're talking about $800 in terms of US dollars, right? Used DBKs in great condition are cheap and plentiful. And you'd be getting real DiMarzios, not those IBZ half-breeds (pun very much intended.)

It's not quite a VWH, but it's a step closer to your dream guitar than an RG. Still, being in the Prestige line, the 2550 is probably brilliant, so I don't forsee any unhappiness either way; it just might be worth thinking about a used 7DBK.

You can get a VWH fairly cheap on evilbay if you keep your eye open : D That's how I got mine.
