jem7vwh or jem77FP ???

Hi, boys!! I wanna buy a guitar (my first good guitar) and my target is one of these: jem7vwh, or jem77FP.
the fp is more cool, and I like it...but it hasn´t AANJ, and it has basewood body and PAF pro(not Evolution). I don´t know what it means and how it influence in the sound. Can you tell what´s better: evolution/paf pro, alder/basewood, and if the AANJ is important. I need your help, cause I can´t play it in any shop
Can you tell me songs where Steve use "evolution" and songs where Steve use the jem77FP?
And finally I wanna know if Rich has FP in his stock, cause I don´t see it in his web...but here, in Spain the FP is available(and it is very strange)

PS: long life collins dictionaries!!! (uffff! trabajito ma costao -"uffff! I found it difficult to write this message")

Get a 7vwh.

Personaly I think alder is always better than basswood, and the evos sound awesome. Paf pros are ok, and can be great, but not usually in basswood. Anyhoo... I recommend the vwh.

I play both and prefer the 7VWH most of the time. The 77FP may sound a little better clean and has more warmth. There's essentially nothing you can do in sound with a 77FP that you can't with a 7VWH.

I'd go for the 7VWH if I had to choose between the two. I agree the 77FP looks "more cool", though! (My mum loves it!) :P

I can't name specific tracks which were recorded with a standard JEM77FP, but I believe that most of the rhythm tracks on the DLR album "Skyscraper" were done with a basswood JEM with PAF Pros even though a lot of the solos were recorded with a Tom Anderson.

The JEM7VWH can be heard on nearly all Steve's work from "Sex and Religion" to the present day. I think that "Sex and Religion" has the sound most typical of the VWH guitar.

As far as which is "better" well I wouldn't like to say, but given the choice of just one of the guitars I personally would ge for the JEM7VWH. It's just more suited to my tastes in terms of sound and feel. If I was buying a new guitar I would be after one with the AANJ.

I much prefer the necks on my older Florals to the neck I had on my 7VWH, and I like tone of my FPs better too - I sold off the 7VWH 'cause I just wasn't happy with it in the end. Basswood is a wonderful tone wood imho, and some of the best Strats I've ever played have been Japanese made Basswood Strats... The EVOs are definitely hotter than the PAF Pros, but I found them really harsh, and since I play in a band where I don't get to play lead guitar 24/7, I have to have something that really offers up a wide variety of familiar (some would say "Classic", but I don't like to think I'm that old) tones, and the Florals do that... Of course, that being said, the wiring in one of my Floral Jems is pretty heavily customized with a Breed in the bridge (I prefer Breeds to EVOs) and an HS3 in the middle position... Anyway, after seeing how badly the inlay work was done on my 7VWH (there seemed to be nearly as much filler as ebony in the fretboard!) I wouldn't buy another without actually seeing and playing it first... ymmv, of course

I'm with jono - i'd definately prefer the one with the AANJ (7VWH) and also it has the ebony fretboard which would be another big factor for me!!

- gotta looooooove that ebony!

I've always preferred the sound of PAF Pros since they are such a great all-around pickup. They offer a nice clean sound and drive very well. The later versions of the 77FP were direct-mounter to the body which add a lot more depth and fullness to the guitar. I also like the older-style Jem necks as on the 77FP. It has a silky-smooth oil finish that feels almost unfinished. It has a slightly bigger, deeper D-shape to it that the 7V neck.
the 7VWH plays great, too. the Evolution pickups have a hotter output and the overall tone of the guitar has a bit more presence to it. The ebony fingerboard is very smooth and easy to play on. The neck is smaller than the 77FP and more of a C-shape. It has a thicker satin finish to the neck, too.

Personally, I prefer the PAF Pro era JEMs but not significantly more.

I agree with Jimi D. I think evo´s sound is harsh (i´m a PAF pro-Fred fan) and prefer old necks than AANJ´s. The pickups are direct mounted, but the difference with the old jems is minimal, so you can hear how the FP sounds in "Passion and Warfare" or Whitesnake´s "Slip of the tongue" with Mr. Vai. He used a Tom Anderson and a Universe too but it´s easy to difference which is the PAF equipped (the cleaner).
Anyway, they´re both awsome guitars and you´ll be more than happy with both of them.

I only have an FP and I have to say: Gotta love the curtains . But if I had the choice, I'd buy the vwh. Although the FP looks soo much cooler! I just love her. Great sound, great feel=great guitar. You couldn't go wrong with it.

Regardless of the specs, I'd buy the FP simply because everyone seems to buy a VWH in these days. Be different

You can't really go wrong with any of them. Try both and see which on you like the best.

Re: jem7vwh or jem77FP ???

buy both fp first but get the very good condition with vai signature on the backplate...preferably lopro version...because the white one is still in production and the latest one came with original edge tremolo...
