lo pro edge - don't want to pull up

I have a jem7dbk. *is there any way to block the trem so that it will not pull up, only down. *I'm tired of the tuning marathons.

Thanks,

Chip

I have a 7DBK and the tuning is rock solid... It's certainly posible to block any trem simply by whittling a wedge of hardwood to fit between the bridge block and the back edge of the body, but since floating trems are an important part of what Jems are all about, wouldn't it be better to adjust the trem so it works as it should? *

Then again, the added sustain gained by blocking the trem might be kind of neat

You can see Ibanez's 'unfloating block' here. It installs between the tremolo block and the neck side of the cavity. Very effective and you can make a similar piece out of wood... glen

I noticed you said "tuning marathons," do you mean when you change strings? * *i dont know if you do or not, but you should change the strings one at a time. *this way, it holds its tuning pretty well, whereas if you take all the strings off before changing them, it can be a real mess to get it back in tune again.

I change strings one at a time starting with high E and I stretch the strings for a long time. *It stays very close to in tune but I want perfect in tune all the time. *Is that too much to expect?

Once your strings are fully stretched it should stay in near perfect tune if it's properly set up. *(perfect is impossible ya know)
Here's a hint to string tuning. *I always do all of my strings at once, this way I can properly clean the fretboard and oil it. *Once you have your new strings on, you can tune it close to pitch, if you are using the same gauge string the trem should be very close to level again once you are close to pitch. *When you tune your guitar do every other string and then come back on the strings you didn't do ie: *E, D, B, E, G, A. *This seems to balance the trem easier when you're tuning, I usually alternate too: *E, D, B, E, G, A, E, D, B, A, G, E,
after usually only 2 or 3 runs through, it is in excellent tune with no funny occurences. * The floating trem takes a bit to get used to but once you figure it out it is the greatest thing in the world.
(You think tuning a Jem with is tough, try doing a UV with that big heavy low B)
