Lo-Pro use and abuse - ... by Mr. Vai

Does anyone know how fast Steve goes through trems?

I'm just watching a video and he's definitely one person that uses the trem to do all sorts of stuff.

Anyone care to even guess?

Steve is very tricky...Don't be fooled - his whammy pedal does a lot of the work, even though he tries to fake you out. *Watch the vids again and pay attention to where his feet are.

There's no way he goes thru a bridge-a-month. *

I don't think he uses a whammy pedal all that often, I've watched a couple Vai video clips, and he seems to use the trem, simply because you can't get the same sound as you would with the trem. *Listen closer, I've noticed that he uses the wah a lot in places where I can barely even hear a wah being used. *So maybe you should watch whether his foot is on the red pedal or one of the black ones.

Well, you don't even need to be looking at his foot. I mean he has the trem bar in his right (and sometimes left) hands more than 50% or the time, chopping it, lifting the entire weight of the guitar with it and all sorts of other fancy stuff.

I think that he uses the whammy pedal pretty sparingly (unlike Satriani). But like Bob said.... it's just not the same as when a trem is used.

I think he uses the tremolo with his wah in most situations. After watching him playing live, I realized that the man always keeps his foot in that BH.

In addition, I could re-create some Vai crazy sounds playing this way: wah + tremolo bar. But just a few sounds... I don't know how can he do those weird things...
