Question

Making the Jem7VWH less pimp?

I've got to say that I absolutely love these things, but looks-wise they just don't suit me. I'm not pimp enough!! Don't get me wrong, I love crazy-looking guitars, but this looks like it should be played by somebody like Prince or something.

I've thought of changing the hardware:

Chrome - would make it look like a Chibanez
Black/cosmo - would make it look like a Jem 555

Anyone any idea how I could make this guitar a little less pimp-ish?

No viable option there, hang the sense of it and make it more pimp... say gold strings!

Black hw could also make it look like Evo which is a less pimped vwh I would say. Looks like evo more than a 555. I would go for that.

exactly what I was thinking. and if you switch to black hardware after you remove the paint then all the pimpin factor will be gone.

It's extremely tempting, but what if the wood looks ugly as hell underneath?

I guess I could look at a replacement body because I've already got the scratchplate.

Re: Making the Jem7VWH less pimp?

This is the thing... I actually HAVE the guitar in question. I've owned a good 4 or 5 vwh's and this is definitely in the top 2 that I've had. Each time I've got rid of them for the same reason (this reason) and I want to keep this one.

It's no big deal though, I just thought it'd be cool to get some suggestions. Vim's suggestion is ludicrous... but pretty cool in a strange way!

Re: Making the Jem7VWH less pimp?

Something else I should mention that was an influence on me thinking about this, was that the gold hardware has quite a lot of tarnishing on it and to replace the trem would benefit in more ways than one. Like I say though, no big deal, it works perfectly so I should just get some more mileage out of it.

Re: Making the Jem7VWH less pimp?

Why not just get a 2550 and carve a monkey grip into it? It's basically a jem without the vine inlay and monkey grip, right? Sort of? More so than your average RG, anyway.

Voila! Instant less-pimpishnessitudinalism...or something.

Re: Making the Jem7VWH less pimp?

Strip the body and headstock and put a nice flame or quilt veneer on it.........

I have two floral/VBK's that i've done it to and they always get loads of admiring comments..........
