my first jem!!!

i actually had been looking into getting a universe for a long time but sure enough a guy at a music store near by needed to sell his 88 (he claimed it was a 91 but the first 2 digits of the serial say 8 777dy jem. it's a tad beat up, a lot of little scratches here and there, it's missing the locking nut as he put a small screw in to block the trem from bending up. but i absolutely love it. my real question in all of this is does any one know where i can find a 88 back plate or at least an identical new one and locking nut. as well what were the hard shell cases like on these as i want to find one. i'm planning on having the finish fixed up by a local luthier so to make it back to mint condition again. as well 2nd question is there supposed to be a finish on the fingerboard? and does anyone have any tips on cleaning it.
thanks
Andrew

Re: my first jem!!!

I am a little curious about this screw he used to block the trem. Where did he screw it into? Hopefully in the back cavity somewhere(if it had to be done)
Nice score!!
Sounds great that you are going to bring her back from the edge of death.
Post pics when you can!

Re: my first jem!!!

no 777 is not in the serial number. i was trying to put an 8 next to a ) and it turned into a damn smiley. hmm.... this really was a steal. $550 for it. plus the original gig bag. i just with they came with hardshells. was there a general hardshell for the 777 dy's or were they doomed to the gig bags? as well any info on the finish on the neck? i will try to take pictures some time either tomorrow or monday as i have work and band practice tomorrow (this makes 11 guitars and my drummer is going to absolutely piss him self laughing at this due to the colors but i love it). the ibanezrules.com did help, thanks. this guitar is sitting quite nicely next to my ibanez rg-470 from 2000 with paf pro's in the neck and bridge, same pickup config (humbucker wise) as the jem. so amazingly different though. i love em both.

777DY for $550 or 777'V'DY (vine)? Either of them in decent shape for 550 is a good deal. I've always wanted a 777DY, those are nice.
