MY Ibanez Universe=POS

Yeah, that's right. I had a tech restring it, 2 saddles broke when he did it(the d and g). Since then I tried to restring it, then the high b saddle broke(it takes about 2 and 1/2 weeks to get these saddles in, too.) Finally got that one fixed, last night I was using my fine tuner and the low E saddle broke. I'm doing a R/A, and it's going back to Ibanez. It's a great sounding guitar, maybe the best i've played. But if I cannot restring my guitar without it breaking, it's crap. I'm not doing anything wrong either. On the second turn of the saddle(when it's really really lose) when I was restringing the b, it snapped right off. Something is wrong. Ibanez should not put a crappy bridge on a high end $2000 guitar. This sucks. I've called them and everything. I want a new guitar, a fixed guitar, or my money back. Its an 06' uv777bk. I put .10's on it and tune down 1/2 step. Can anyone help me, or give me some advice?

Re: Ibanez Universe=POS

I know this may seem obvious but you are not "cranking" them down are you? The only time I have ever broken a saddle on any guitar.....even with crappy licensed trems was when I got allen wrench happy and cranked too hard.
That only happened once. Maybe over time, tightening them too much they have finally just had enough? It really doesnt take much at all to clamp the string snugly in the saddle.
Other than that I wouldnt know.

Re: Ibanez Universe=POS

No dude, i've only restrung this guitar a few times. Every time a saddle has broken. They break even before it's tight enough to touch the string in the pocket. I have no idea how it physically happens... No definately not overtightening.

You either have the worst luck or you're doing something very very wrong.

Of all the guitars I sell I currently send out about 2 EP saddles a year as warranty. Nobody I've ever sold a guitar to has broken more than one saddle, and in all the guitars I prep, I've only ever broken one saddle.

It's bad luck. If a good guitar tech, a owner of a music store, and an expierenced musician(with tremolo's) have broken 4/7 saddles, there is no way we are doing anything wrong. Something is wayyyyy messed up with this bridge.

Re: Ibanez Universe=POS

Maybe somebody overtightened all the saddles before you got the guitar. Replace all the saddles (that haven't already been replaced) and see if the problem goes away.

Be prepare for a far inferior neck if you go to Dean. I have a Dean, 2 Ibanez's, and a Lado. Here is how I would rate each of their necks based on my preferences (out of 10):

Ibanez RGA121: 10 (I've tried many guitars, and no other neck comes close)
Ibanez RG320FM: 8 (a hell of neck for the what the guitar costs)
Lado Earth: 8 (thick as a baseball bat and finished, but still excellent playability)
Dean 79' Z: 6.5 (slow, slow, slow and awkward spring-spacing in comparison to my 3 other guitars)

I can only give you a qualified opinion on the necks on the more 'traditional' Deans (e.g. Z, V, ML, Caddy), so I'm not sure about the other models. Regardless of whatever level you are playing at, you will notice a huge difference. I would urge you to thoroughly test drive whatever Dean you are looking at.

My $.02.

Cheers

Re: Ibanez Universe=POS

It sound like you dont have a clue about how to setup this guitar, and neither does your tech.

Ive owned about 50 Ibanez guitars and NEVER broke a saddle. THough Ive heard that the EP saddles are more prone to braking that the older Edge and Lo Pro saddles, I never broke one of them either.

Re: Ibanez Universe=POS

You're probably better off just trading it back in and getting a nice Telecaster and some bitchin stickers.
