Re: My interview with Steve Vai (new Jem confirmation!)

I reckon its a second whammy bar so you dont have to spin around the bar to bend upwards

Re: My interview with Steve Vai (new Jem confirmation!)

Kahler used to make a trem that had a small bar facing backward exactly for that purpose

I don´t need innovations. I like Jem series as is. The last innovations didn´t grow on me (Dirty Mirror finishes, Plastic anniversary toys, fixed bridges for 80´s guys...).

+1

Very, very ironic that I thought the same thing. I imagined Steve Vai wanting to evolve past the OFR/Original Edge by putting a ZPS in his newly designed bridge. Everyone who buys one thinks it "feels great" because, after all, Steve Vai said so and you just paid $3000 for it.

OR he could just route out EVO for a stock Edge Zero, rename it "ZEVO" and sell that as his "new bridge" on all JEMs like you said.

I kid!

Seriously though, I really am betting on refined tremelo of some sort. The double whammy idea might be right on the money.

its a white and black floral with a fixed bridge and a hideous sticker on it. That would be revolutionary.....

Steve was very chatty and freakin' awesome. Of course, if you don't want to read the whole 4,000-word thing, you might just want to see this bit, which came at the end of a long discussion about the Jem...

I Heart Guitar: So where to from here for the ‘ol girl?

Vai:
There’s always little innovations. We’re working on a new material pattern – remember the floral pattern? Oh my gosh, we’re doing something like that again but ah, the pattern is so gorgeous. When you see it you’re going to die. And also there’s one innovation, I can’t really tell you what it is, but it’s revolutionary. It’s one of those very simple, practical things that no-one ever did, and it’s just like, ‘Well duh!’

I Heart Guitar: Is this going to be at NAMM in January?

Vai:
Yeah, we’re going to have a couple of things there.

There was a guy (sorry I can't remember who it was) in another thread (I think about the 2010 Universe PAW reissue or similar) who said the finnish distributer had confirmed that the FP would return.

He said that Finnish folks aren't in the habit of exagerating or making things up... and it seems he might just have been right

Re: My interview with Steve Vai (new Jem confirmation!)

There was a thread asking why Jackson players hate Ibanez. Now here we are, the Ibanez fans, criticising a guitar that we haven't seen yet and don't know the details of.

Great interview, Petie. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for posting Petie!

That's exciting, a new pattern finish on the Jem! I can't wait!

Maybe 2010 will be the year I buy another jem.

I waited 22 years from 1st playing an LNG back in '87 to getting my first JEM last month...now I have 4 of 'em! They're all awesome and all have their characteristics and nuances, but I think if you like 'em so much, take the plunge!

Steve only said it was a material pattern, not an FP though I'm hoping it will be available for less than the price of a new car
