Re: My interview with Steve Vai (new Jem confirmation!)

Nah, that's a handpainted Where The Wild Things Are graphic (see the original version of the interview in Premier Guitar for the artisi's name - I can't easily check on my iPhone right now) on an RG1527 body with a UV neck. I don't think that'd be it.

Re: My interview with Steve Vai (new Jem confirmation!)

Ok I was thinking about this the other night before bed, and the only thing I came up with, in regards to the new feature for the new Jem guitar, is a lock for the whammy bar.

So when you push down on the whammy bar you hit a button and it locks the whammy in the exact position you pushed it..

Does that make sense ?

if its not it, then they should add this feature anyways...

what do you all think about them apples :P

That would be fine if the intonation didn't go out when you push on the bar, which it would. I doubt this would be something that could be constructed which would be usable.

Maybe not locking the trem wherever you want, as that could be very difficult to achieve... but it could be a lock for the trem when it's in the normal position (that is, where it sits when trem arm isn't being used). It would be like switching between an Edge Pro and Edge FX (fixed bridge version) at the push of a button / flick of a switch / pull of a lock / whatever other methods of activation are available.

And that could avoid all sorts of problems associated with trems.

Yeah lol, tremo-nos work for that too, but like Vai said, he brought out the Hardtail JEM both for his customers and himself, because sometimes he didn't need to use the trem, and when that was the case he didn't want to have to deal with the problems associated with the trem.

So it would make sense now if he wanted to make a guitar with a bridge that could do both within an instant?

Those definitely work, but the overhead is very high. Setting it up so that you can change pitches takes hours.

Re: My interview with Steve Vai (new Jem confirmation!)

How 'bout a sustainer using piezo saddles in the trem rather than a magnetic driver.
Steve uses a sustainer so much now he must include one in his signature guitar!

Plus I like the idea of a 'lockable' edge ...

Re: My interview with Steve Vai (new Jem confirmation!)

Orange Jem would be nice.

I'm actually considering the hardtail Jem , maybe they will be had cheap on closeout by the end of next year.

But if they can really pull off something unique and revolutionary it may be the first Jem which i buy new.......... D,amn... it'll probably run 3k or more with taxes and such....

Wilkinson did that 20 years ago.
