My interview with Steve Vai (new Jem confirmation!)

Hey all. Here's my interview with Steve:

http://www.iheartguitarblog.com/2009...steve-vai.html

Steve was very chatty and freakin' awesome. Of course, if you don't want to read the whole 4,000-word thing, you might just want to see this bit, which came at the end of a long discussion about the Jem...

I Heart Guitar: So where to from here for the ‘ol girl?

Vai:
There’s always little innovations. We’re working on a new material pattern – remember the floral pattern? Oh my gosh, we’re doing something like that again but ah, the pattern is so gorgeous. When you see it you’re going to die. And also there’s one innovation, I can’t really tell you what it is, but it’s revolutionary. It’s one of those very simple, practical things that no-one ever did, and it’s just like, ‘Well duh!’

I Heart Guitar: Is this going to be at NAMM in January?

Vai:
Yeah, we’re going to have a couple of things there.

Thanks for posting Petie. Great article - I especially like where Steve describes how to be "in the moment of the note" and to think slightly ahead of your phrase. It's also good to see Steve is still active with new guitar ideas. Can't wait for NAMM.

I can handle a pink guitar, even neon-jizz, but a "gorgeous pattern"?

I'd prefer something more technical/industrial (BSB/AM/DBK), I wouldn't mind arty (RG-art/JPM/GB30th) but a "pattern to die for"? That really doesn't sound metal enough.

oh christ i would laugh SO GODDAMN HARD if the new "revolutionary" thing was an edge zero being applied to every jem from now on.

that would never happen, but i'd laugh till i pissed myself.

Re: My interview with Steve Vai (new Jem confirmation!)

perhaps it's that new trem we saw on FLO II where the bridge doesn't rock back & forth on knife edges & pivots but rather slides toward the headstock when the bar is lowered and slides the other way when the bar is raised?

or maybe the new Jems will have True Temperment Frets right from the factory.

Oh and I LOVE the idea of a new Floral with AANJ

A new pattern JEM, WOW! Very exciting. Damn, I wish I would have kept my FP, someday I will get one again. Great interview, not your typical questions which is refreshing. A lot of exciting things in camp Vai. Cool!

by the sounds of that the floral pattern is not going to be exactly the same as the origanals,i could be wrong about that but the way steve was talking its going to be a bit different.sounds very exciting what ever it is
