My JEM's G string sounds funny

Check the nut, if the guitar is quite old (or if it's just being used a lot) it can be changed preventing the string to vibrate well (its center moved and the string is not in its original position anymore).

Devon8822, I had the same problem as you and it turned out to be the angle of the nut slot for the G string. The string wasn't making contact at the edge of the nut. Try Rich's test to see if this is the problem:

Also, check nut height like this: fret the string at the 3rd fret and look at the clearance at the first fret. If the string is touching the first fret, the nut needs a shim. There should be enough clearance to slip in a business card.
