My JEM's G string sounds funny
I have a problem with my JEM and I am wondering if anybody is familiar with the problem... I have no idea what is causing it or how to fix it and its driving me nuts. The best description I can give you is that the G strings tone is different from the other strings... including the other non-
wound strings
. It sound sorta hollow... maybe slightly less treble... Hollow is the best word to describe it though... like when you knock on a hollow tree. help?

The string only has to anchor points. Both ends are good places to start looking for anything "wrong". Might be a saddle with a loose screw. You might have attached the string backwards. This will result in a reverse sound.

Take a heavy pick or a coin or something and press the string hard against the nut to seat it on it's edge, then pluck a note and see if it's changed.

ROFLMAO!
String either not seated in the nut, wound portion of string at the end is up in the locking part of the saddle, or a cracked saddle/loose saddle would be my guesses. Can't be a whole lot of things.

Re: My JEM's G string sounds funny
It's true! When I want to play those clever reversed guitar parts that Vai/Satch do I reverse all my strings and then its dead easy to play

Re: My JEM's G string sounds funny
Hendrix being a lefty, all the strings were on backwards as they only had right handed guitar strings back then. This is how he got that tone on the solo to Purple Haze.

Re: My JEM's G string sounds funny
But guys, I've seen a lot of people put the ball ends of the strings at the tuners, they can't all be playing reverse guitar parts! Maybe if you then play the guitar upside down it cancels out? Perhaps these guys are all from the southern hemisphere and I never noticed!
.....
If you can't find anything lose, could the intonation be badly out on that particular string causing overtones? Or, could it be the single coil raised too high causing the string's vibration to be uneven in the strong magnetic field.

Re: My JEM's G string sounds funny
I have always put my strings on backwards with the ball end at the headstock...
keep in mind its only the g string. I have checked the nut and the bridge and everything is normal. It does this even if I change the strings... i cannot figure it out. Any more ideas?

Re: My JEM's G string sounds funny
my first thought would be pole pieces at the wrong height. but if it does it on every
pickup combo
then it is more likely to be because one was too close, as stated before. if nothing else try getting a wound g string.

Re: My JEM's G string sounds funny
Some people claim that a wound G string is a flaw in itself
