My new geetar!!

Just finished building this for myself - kind of a 7-string Jem rather than a UV (with the monkey grip, lions paw, and vine). Mahogany back with thick quilt maple front lacquered in nitro-cellulose, Unfinished maple vine fingerboard on maple neck, Flame maple lacquered veneer on headstock, Blaze custom bridge pickup with Blaze neck, Volume control and 5-way rotary switch (like a PRS), LoPro7 trem.
The rotary 5-way is awesome, it goes:
1. Bridge humbucker
2. Inner coils of each pickup in parallel
3. Outer coils in parallel
4. Outer coils in series
5. Neck humbucker
All positions are hum-cancelling and the 3 middle positions are really cool - I'm gonna have to change some of my other guitars to this switching for sure.
Rich

Lovely. That cap looks immensely thick - about 1 cm?

I really like the clean appearance with just the two knobs and no slider. I wish you many hours of fun with it!

Re: My new geetar!!

Nice except I don't like the green pups...I don't know, green kind of throws the whole "natural" look out of balance. Still is awesome though.

Also why not a "quilted" veneer instead of the "flame" ?

Do you plan on putting a finish of some kind on the fret board ? I ask because you said it was unfinished, so I'd expect it to get dirty real fast.

Re: My new geetar!!

Very nice. You made the neck? That neck looks sweet with the colors in that vine over a maple board. SAWEET!!

Pics of the back?

Re: My new geetar!!

Some replies:
The maple is around 19mm thick - yummy!!
I wasn't gonna have green pickups originally - it was gonna be a gold vine and cream pickups, but I decided that might be a bit too subtle, so I changed to green vine and pickups so it still had a bit of a quirk to it.
The veneer on the head is quite a subtle ripple rather than out and out flame so it matches the body quite well. And the board is definitely gonna get dirty as it's just sanded to 2000 grit and then oiled, but they feel so nice to play on like that that I don't mind having to clean it every once in a while ;-)
Cheers all,
Rich
