My New JEM (7vWH)

Hi all,

I am new to the JEM world, and wanted to share my experience:

Earlier this week, while out trying some guitars, I happened across a JEM7VWH. I had heard about these, so I thought I would give it a try. Simply put, I was totally blown away! This is hands-down, the best
feeling/playing guitar I have ever played. It is an '04 model, with a rosewood fingerboard. I do not know where they get there wood, but this is some of the nicest rosewood I have seen ---- nice dark hue, very tight grain,
and unbelievably smooth. I have played ebony boarded Gibsons and Jacksons, but I swear that this rosewood felt every bit as smooth to my fingers -- smooth and fast! The satin-like feel to the back of the neck, also felt great. Plugging in, I was amazed at how great this axe sounds. One other thing, these EVO PUs are one of the hottest passive PUs I have ever played with.

Well, needless to say I bought the JEM. The workmanship on it is excellent --fret work, nut work, finish work, etc. The only thing I did, was to drop the action just a touch. I can't belive how low the action is, and I still have no buzzing problems anywhere to be found! In fact, I also can't believe just how light a touch I need to play this guitar.

Anyway, in case you haven't guessed, this axe is a definite keeper

I played a universe at a musicians flea market. I liked it a lot - thought it was as easy to play as any 6 string guitar and it was a 7! Was going to buy it until I came across a guy selling old Marshall amps from his personal collection, which is when I bought my Marshall Major and 2 cabs for the exact same price as the Universe ($1500, in 2000).

I figured the Major was the better buy at the time and I would regret not buying it now even if it was just to sell it 5 years later and make a profit on. I could get most my money back on the cabinets alone, and right after I bought the Major, someone on the vai chat room offered me $2000 if I ever choose to sell it. Its in better condition than any Major I have seen, there is a tear in the tolex and a MV mod but it's completely mint besides the MV mod that can easily be removed for originality purposes besides a whole in it. I have seen Majors sell from $1200 to $4-5K by recent prices. Plus it just sounds great!

But I made it a point to check out the 6 string Jems ever since (I would like a 7 to play with but the low B string would not get used too much).

In 2003, I took a semester off from class, so I worked full time and banked a lot of money after I bought my Marshall Studio 15 (practice amp!). So I was shopping online (only way to find one where I live) for used Jems, and my friend told me they had one in Guitar Center. So I went down there to play it.

There was a guy playing amps who I have now been playing with ever since. I had the Jem and also a JS100 and a used US Jackson soloist. I was playing through a Marshall JCM 2000 TSL and reissue JCM 800, neither of which the two of us particularly care for and a Vox AC30 since I own one of those (but I dont really care what it sounds like because ANY guitar sounds great through that amp!).

The JCM 800 sounded way too dark, so I was using the TSL and when I picked up the Jackson after playing the Jem, it took him less than 30 seconds to say get the last one, that sounded really good, which was my thoughts exactly too.
