My New Universe!

Well, its finally arrived. I'm now the proud owner of a UV777BK, '97 model.

Strange thing is, the first owner put in a small toggle switch between the volume and tone. This switch does exactly nothing, so i shall soon be ordering a new pickguard for the guitar.

Despite this, the guitar is in practically mint condidtion, with no scratches or blemishes anywhere. I've only been playing on it for an hour, but i haven't had any problems switching the the 7 strings, just feels a little weird at first. Tone-wise i'm loving it, but i still need to tweak my amp a little, as its still set up for my DBK. Once i can stop playing it for a second i shall sort out the trem angle (its a little high for me) and get some 9's on it, and i shall be away.

Here are a couple of photos from the ebay auction, i should be getting some more this weekend.

i don't think its been refretted, certainly doesn't feel or look it in the flesh, as it were.

xaoscontrol, thats cool you got one too, great guitars aren't they?

some time in the next couple of weeks i'll try and get photos of my two Ibanez together, the DBK and UV look so cool next to eachother.

I'm not so fotunate to own a dbk as well as the UV. Actually, this IS my second Ibanez. My first, which I still have, is a 540SLTD in DY. I replaced the bridge pickup with a PAF Pro and it's got a kickin' tone to it. Love that. I'm intending to get a Jem sometime down the road and put the Sabre into retirement. I was thinking the other day that it would be cool to send it off the ATD for a nice swirly job.

I may try to get a 555 or a DBK down the road. For now, I'm going to enjoy my Uni.

So far, I'm loving it. Amazing tone. I was also amazed at how it seemed to be set just right. I'm going to take it back to the dealer for a true setup but for now, it's great.

Never knew what I was missing. I thought it was an 02 model but it's an 01' model. No matter...still bad as hell.

yeah, mine needs a set up as well really. I need to get some 9's on there and reduce the bridge angle a bit. The pickups could also do with coming up a bit as well.

well, i spent a couple of hours yesterday setting the guitar up, and it has made a world of difference. The 9's i put on there make lead playing much, much easier. I've found that i've adapted to the seven string really quickly with only my picking hand having slight difficulty when string skipping arpeggios.

One thing i really, really love about this guitar is the neck pickup for lead work. It has such a smooth, full tone to it. The only problem is that using the lowest notes on the guitar the sound can get a little muddy. Moving to the bridge pickup solves this problem i find. I was also suprised at how good the second and fourth positions sound with a clean sound. They are just as good, if not better than my Jem.

That is all for now, back to learning A Change of Seasons!

Is that microswitch a kill between the volume/tone knobs?

the microswitch doesn't do anything at all, its been taken out of the circuit. I'll replace the pickguard at some point, and get rid of the switch.
