Your uncle is probably older than you, and it's very likely the Jems came along when he was fed up with all the bad 80's music. Just like you might not think highly of Mosrite guitars. Probably based on nothing. Ask him how many Jems he's played and owned. Maybe his musical direction is a bit different than yours?

Challenge him to do a blind test with the Jem, and one of his guitars. Blindfold him, and play through the same amp. Clean tone, bridge pickup of his guitar, and the neck/middle on the Jem, with the tone rolled off...

Every guitar tech I've spoken to has told me that JEMS are one of the best guitars you can buy. Everyone has their own opinions.

That's funny!!!

True though, everyone is entitled to their own opinion! I think Telecasters are UGLY, but some people love them.

Yeah, thats them. The Alien is awesome, way cooler than the ultra zone guitar.I didn't know vai was playing it. Didn't it end up on E Bay?

Also, from my experience, most bass players don't know crap about guitars. They're used to giant strings with more space between them so the technique doesn't carry over very well (very sloppy). If you can't play a guitar, you shouldn't be judging it.

Who cares what your uncle thinks about YOUR guitar - all that matters is what you think!

If all the Fender Strat owners here cared about the "Let's bash the Strat" thread, most of us would be sobbing silently into our beer........!

Did you play one and like how it felt?

Did you like how it sounded?

Do you find JEM's to be aesthetically pleasing?

If so, then screw your uncle. Why does his taste matter? Oh, and never, ever, listen to a bassist comment on what we (guitarists) should be playing. Always remember, at the end of the day a bassist is nothing more then a glorified rhythm track.

Re: my uncle just kicked the tyres of my jem and it aint even here yet.

The Jem is a top of the line guitar in every respect. If someone doesn't like them, it's a matter of taste. It has nothing to so with the inherent quality of the instrument. If a person tells you the quality of the instrument is crappy, and his last name isn't Buscarino or Benedetto, then he likely isn't in a position to judge
