need help with doing a fabric topped guitar
Hey guys!! I asked glen about this and he suggested that I post this here to see if and of you could give me a little help.... ok, a lot of help!
I am gonna refinish a rg body and I would like to do a fabric top like the floral print JEMS. If anyone could please give me some advice or a tutorial on how to do it, I would greatly appreciate it. What adhesive should I use to apply the fabric to the body? Do I attach the fabric and then trim the excess or do I trace the body onto the fabric and cut it before I apply it to the body? I know that I need to use a fabric that is not "fuzzy" and has no knap to it. Is there a certain type of fabric I should use like cotton, or something?
As far as the clearcoat finish goes, my buddy works for an auto body shop and will be applying the clearcoat, sanding, and buffing the body for me. He is super talented when it comes to custom paint jobs. You should see the custom work he does on cars and motorcycles.
If any of you have directions on how to do this from beginning to end that you could share, please share them. I now I will probably not get a truely professional result on my own and I would like to at least have a chance of getting a pleasing end result.
