Neville help..

Does anybody know what pickups are fitted to Neville? I've been told that they might be Prototype breeds, but nothing is definite. I've taken the pickguard off and there are no codes on the back of the pickups...cheers

Prototypes would certainly make sense since the whole guitar was a prototype. The gold pole pieces always make me think "Evos", but of course that's irrational since you can get gold poles on any Dimarzio pickup, as far as I know.

When did the first production guitar with Breeds appear? If I'm not mistaken, Neville first showed up on the Fire Garden tour, which would have been 96/97. If the Breeds first went into production around that time, I would think the theory of prototypes would be solid.

Mikey or J on vai.com said the original Breed were the Pogos.
I mean the Pogos would have become Breed, but I don't think Neville has Pogos as they're from 92/93 circa I believe

MALAM, can you give us an idea of tone in comparison to other Vai pups?

Do they seem like the top end is rolled off a bit (Breeds) or are they fairly bright like Evo's?

They aren't Pogos.

They are probably stock Evolutions.

On a side note, a friend on myspace that is a big Vai fan actually has pics posing with you on her page in front of the tour bus. I thought you might like hearing you are appreciated and recognized. Take care and thanks for taking the time to help out now and then with info around here.
