new..few questions

hi, i have a few questions about JEM guitars.

1)I'm saving for a 7DBK. I saw a picture and the finish looked kind of weird. Like it had melted candle wax on it, it looked like a completely different finish to the one on the Ibanez site. What is the finish like?

2)Is it worth buying a JEM instead of an RG570? I've been playing guitar for 4 years and i'm not that fast enough to play Vai material. Is it worth me getting a JEM?

3)Will anyone sell me a JEM-7DBK with shipping to Britain for $1099 or less?

Thankyou

To answer most of your questions:

1) Look here for more accurate pictures: http://jemsite.com/axes/model/jem7dbk.htm

2) Yes. Esp. the DBK- very versatile guitar.

3) Dunno. Check eBay regularly.

Hey easter, remember if you're buying from States or elsewhere, when you bring it into the UK you will have to pay import duty and VAT. Duty is at 3.7% of the value and then VAT of 17.5% on top of that. If you are looking at US$1099 including shipping then the actual total to you will eventually be US$1339.

The 7DBK neck is actually closer to the RG5xx and up than any of the other Jem necks. It's a thinner at the nut end than all the other Jems and the closest to a Wizard profile you can get on a Jem.

1. Yes, the DBK does have a textured finish on it - melted candle wax isn't a bad description.

2. That's a decision only you can make. Is a Jem better than a 570? Yes. IMO, if you can afford it, why not get it - playing on a good instrument is always inspiring and will probably give you the motivation to keep practicing so you CAN eventually play Steve Vai licks

3. $1099 isn't an outlandish price for a used DBK and i'm sure there are plenty over there where you wouldn't have to pay all the extra customs fees.

3) Please folks pay attention to the notices that Glen's posted regarding third party advertising.

Sorry, I've read his post but wasn't aware that I was breaking any rules. (I know, I'm slow )

Honestly, don't pay more than $800 to $850 used. There are plenty on the used market. In the states you can get a new DBK for $1099.

Easter, you can prob pick up one 2nd hand here for about £750. They only go for £1200. Check the back of guitar mags, there's usually a few Jems for sale.
