New Jems vs Old School Jems. Which is better? Need help!
I am looking for the following and have a question:
Which is better to play on or quality? I see so many JEMWVH and so on... edge pro or lo pro.... which are better to play on. I have a JS1200, 2 Razorbacks (yes i know its jemsite but these Dean ones are good to play on) and I also purchased a UNiverse Re-Issue too. Have an RG from 2007 and want a BRMR (only 2005 and 2006 production).
What will I get by going for 2004 or before guitars that I won't get from Team J Craft stuff?
What if any are differences between Lo Pro and Edge Bridge trems?

Re: New Jems vs Old School Jems. Which is better? Need help!
Hey
I have an '88 77FP and an '05 BRMR. I'm no expert, just a casual player, but i can attest that while both are excellently made guitars, I fell in love with the FP the moment I first played it. The neck has a different profile to the newer Jem, and I love the PAF pros - the breeds on the Brmr are very aggressive, and the Pafs are a little sweeter. Also, the FP just has 'something' about it.
As far as the difference between original edge and edge pro, the flutter on my old FP is amazing, clearly better than on the newer BRMR, but that could be because the newer guitar isn't set up as well. Both are very reliable trems though, far as I can tell. All I can say is, try before you buy if you're looking for a player - the guitar might speak to you, it might not.
Maybe some other users on here could be more specific about changing build practices over the years. They've been making Jems a quarter century now, after all...

The newer necks are thinner. The old Jems had a 1 piece maple neck, and the new ones have a 5 piece maple/walnut neck.
The really early Jems had a different neck joint as well.
I like the old ones

You won't br disappointed with any Jem!
Some of us like the old ones for the finishes. They all okay great.
To see the difference between Edge versions--go to Wikipedia and type in Ibanez Edge.

^^^^ this
Which is better, McDonald's or burger king? What's better, football or baseball? What's more fun, swimming or running?
It's all personal!! You gotta go play a few and decide for yourself!

I agree! Those are my favorites, and I'll never get rid of any of the ones I have left--especially the LNG.

Ya the neons are also the most eye catching, especially the sk. I've never gotten as many looks as I did when people saw my sk lol except maybe the swirls. Honestly, my favorite 2 jems as far as playing goes thus far has to be the Jem vdy, and the Jem 20th.

I've had 4 so far. Two earlies and two late models. 87 SK, 90 PBK, 10'VBK, 03' VWH and the two earlier models outplayed the new ones by quite a bit. They don't seem as refined due to the plain looking 1 pc neck, but it just felt easier to play. Never had to fight that guitar to get it to sound awesome. It's like an old baseball mitt but it looked good. It's hard to sat. I would recommend an older one first, not to mention there is more variety, but if you aren't comfortable with a square heel and want something newer, you won't be disappointed either. I love my newish jems, but I just keep going back to my late 80's Ibby's

Honestly, you can't go wrong with a uv777bk though. I've had quite a few, and I can honestly say they all play different. My only problem is that I'm starting to get kind of sick of the dimarzio blaze pups..I switched out one for An evolution and the other uv I switched them out for a liquifier and crunchlab

I have 12 JEMs for 87 to 2010.
The JEMs in the middle are the best.

Re: New Jems vs Old School Jems. Which is better? Need help!
Trouble is i entred the game in 2006 and only discovered the only two brands and past models i liked by last year.
I guess its the same argument for cars. More machine before than electrical and power steered now. You wont get those raw growling V8s like todays V8s in AMG's and so on....
I guess since its tough, i'll have to buy most of the ones I can find.
Its tought trying to find them now. I would love one of the shocking pink ones.
Aside from the bay, gumtreee,,,, is there any other places online where people buy and sell guitars that i'm missing?
