Newbie here, need advice

Hi, everyone, I'm a newbie here, and needed your advice, as I am about to do a new guitar purchase this Saturday, and wanted some info in advance.
I wanted to buy a Jem 7VH or the Sarkle Blue one. But they're pretty expensive here in Argentina ( List price is about 3300 US ), so I have other choices, such as getting a PGM 10 annyversary, a RG 3120TW, or maybe a seven string such as the UV 777 BK, or RG 2027 XVV. I know they are a lot of choices, but my questions are:

-Regarding the six string models: Is the Jem really worth at such a price, or will I be better with the PGM ( and regarding that particular one, is the neck thicker than the standard PGM ? Because the PGM 100's neck felt too skinny for my taste), or even the RG, wich neck seems the meatier?

-Regarding the seven strings: Which of the two mentioned is better in your opinion, soundwise and from the resale point of view?

Any other comments or suggestions, feel free to reply.
Thanks in advance,
Welmo.

Well a lot of it just comes down to personal preference. I personally wouldn't think of buying a JEM simply because I'd rather just go with a Prestige RG and save some moola. Shoot, for the kind of money you'd have to throw down for a JEM you could import one of those sweeeeet J-custom guitars from Japan.

i would suggest the uv777bk. It's a very good guitar, and you can get them relatively cheap nowadays. You get used to seven strings pretty quick. And it looks pretty awesome!
It's the last guitar you ever need!

has worked for me.....

I second both opinions. I believe that the extra $$$ you pay for a Jem are Vai's little idiosyncrasies (it's HIS guitar after all), and a J-custom or a Prestige model should be equally good in terms of build quality and durability (plus, you have a wider range of options). My workhorse is a '91 RG770DX that has been through hell and back and the poor thing just keeps going... Amazing quality, and it's not even a Prestige.

I think a UV is definitely worth the $$$ (I believe the only reason it's comparatively cheap is that Vai hardly ever plays 7's anymore ), and it holds its resale value better than an RG-7

With that kind of budget, you can choose virtually anything! See if Rich has anything in stock, or maybe have a shot at Ishibashi.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info!!! I would check them all, though I will especially pay attention to the UV 777BK, the PGM, and the RG.

By the way, what is the J Custom? You mean the ICJ100?
